Island retreat

The island of Kolocep is the southernmost inhabited island in the Adriatic sea. It has 150 inhabitants, subtropical vegetation, a little shop, a cafe, a post office, a primary school with two pupils, one resident doctor, one professional fisherman, and no cars. It was originally a Greek settlement but its original name "Kalamota" is probably Latin. It has secret bays, lovely walks, a clear sea, fragrant pine forests and rural charm.
Ours is a traditional Dalmatian house close to the sea, near to the ferry but surrounded by gardens and olive groves. We live on the lower floors but in the attic, we have recently built a loft with a sea view, underfloor heating, and a huge terrace. The attic has a separate entrance and offers peace and privacy. But if you like you can also join in some rural activities like gardening, olive picking or fishing with our vintage wooden boat.

About Me
After growing up internationally I moved to the little island of Kolocep. The commute to the University by ferry is my favorite part of the day. Recently we have acquired a little place in town so we are enjoying the best of two worlds.

I spent three idyllic months on Kolocep, from August-November 2020. The attic has an outstanding view of the surrounding area and spectacular sunsets over the ocean. I arrived on the island, somewhat unfit, following way too many years of sedentary work - daily walks on the island's numerous tracks, swimming (up till early November) and fresh eggs and veggies from the garden worked wonders! Natalia and her family were extremely generous with their time and attention to anything I needed during my stay. Highlights included a trip around the island in the fishing boat, fresh fish, wild mushroom and the garden patch. But most of all it was the family's hospitality that made me feel so welcome and at home. Excellent Maude Frances 12/2/2020 12:35:00 PM
