Gorgeous Penthouse Condo Overlooking Ginkaku-ji, Philosopher's Walk, Daimonji Mountain

The elevator stops in front of your door and your door only on the sixth floor of this fully renovated, spacious (130 square meters/1400 s.f.) unit in a small, up-scale penthouse condominium minutes from Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion), the Philosopher’s Walk, Kyoto University, bus routes, shopping, and restaurants. As featured in the Renova architectural design magazine, this unit was completely re-done last year and boasts 360-degree views of Kyoto (all five of the okuribi-fires of the Daimon-ji festival are visible). Teak hardwood floors throughout, and all-new appliances (including gaijin-size gas oven, dishwasher, gas clothes dryer, refrigerator, etc.). Master bedroom w/ small hardwood deck/balcony, two tatami rooms/bedrooms, office with attached balcony, dining area (table seats 6-8), living room w/ 55” flat-screen TV (Netflix, Hulu, Japanese cable etc. built-in) and sound system, and vaulted ceiling. The kitchen is all-new w/ smart stove and range, and is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, Keurig coffee maker, Nutri-Bullet Juicer and anything else you could possibly imagine. There is also a small pantry area, island countertop with stools, and adjacent seating area. The oversize bath and shower, toilet, and washroom areas are all separated. There is 28 square-meter (300 s.f.) south-facing mahogany deck w/ small Japanese stone garden, hammocks, and Weber gas grill. Our condo has three large sliding-glass doors opening onto the deck and lots and lots of sunshine. The tatami rooms each have full-size tokonoma (alcoves), all-new shoji-screens, and silk-covered fusuma (sliding doors) that can be removed for a more spacious feel. All utilities (electric, gas, water, cable, and high-speed internet) are included. There are also two bicycles available for you to use. This is our home, not a professional rental. We are both academics in the US and spend our time back and forth between there and our home here in Kyoto. We are not seeking to make money but want somebody to appreciate and enjoy our home while we are not here.

There are not enough superlatives in the book to describe how magnificent this rental is!!! We landed in heaven. The light, the views, the mix of traditional and contemporary rooms --yet with all modern conveniences-- were simply spectacular . Our family of four had generous amounts of space and privacy and options from western dining to tatami tea room; from Western beds to futons; from sofa and recliners to cushions on the mats. All to a quite high aesthetic. We were able to comfortably cook as a home away from home... and plenty of wifi bandwidth to work away from home. It could not have been any closer -- mere steps- to convenient bus lines. Three bakeries and two markets within a stones throw and a neighborhood traditional enough to have its own tofu maker, rice merchants, sake specialist. Nearby hidden shrines and galleries as well as well known tourist and World Heritage sites. A florist to shame Manhattan and a nearby six seat father son artisanal sushi restaurant. Right down to the other three corners of their intersection (a tree line boulevard) being a charming bilingual-enough Post office, a well stocked wine and liquor store, and a coffee supply / cafe emporium. Simply marvelous. Excellent Jordi Herold 1/8/2020 10:18:00 AM
