A two-bedroom, fully furnished, high security apartment with a doorman/porter near the CITY of London as well as Queen Mary's, King's, UCL, SOAS, LSE, Goldsmith's. A well-appointed, bright duplex apartment situated in KEELING HOUSE, a grade 2, listed 1950s building (fully refurbished).

KEELING HOUSE was completed in 1955, designated Grade II* listing in 1993 and converted into luxury apartments with a striking glass foyer (with day concierge) between 1999 and 2001.

With good fittings throughout, two bedrooms (one outfitted as a study with a sleeper couch), porter, lifts, and very high security. Fully furnished with all amenities (high end sound system; printer-fax-scanner-copier; wi-fi). New appliances. Lovely covered balcony with very green table and chairs.

50 yards (one block) from buses both to the west (55-Oxford Street-UCL, SOAS, LSE), Liverpool Street Station and beyond (26-to Waterloo-King's, LSE) as well the south (48-London Bridge; Borough Market); .36 miles (four blocks) from the tube (Bethnal Green / Central Line to LSE); .05 miles (two blocks) from the train (Cambridge Heath); .41 miles (six blocks) from the new London Overground train station at Hoxton Station (to Goldsmiths College). High street shops and street markets (the daily Bethnal Green Road Market, Broadway Market on Saturdays, Columbia Road Flower Market on Sunday mornings) are only three blocks away.

Close proximity to the shops and amenities of Hackney Road and Broadway Market, while Shoreditch, Hoxton, and the City are all within very easy reach offering an extensive range of "trendy" shops, bars and restaurants. There is a direct bus to Liverpool Street Station and to the restaurants (such as the my favorite restaurant in London: St. Johns Bread and Wine on Commercial Street) in the City. The Bethnal Green public library and park is ten minutes' walk away. The neighborhood is exciting and interesting; the building is very safe and secure. London Fields, one of London's best parks with a lido, is a five minute walk from the flat; Victoria Park is a five minute bus ride. There is a public in-door swimming pool at the York Park Leisure center on Old Ford Road, a five minute walk from the flat.

The closest restaurants are at Broadway market (which is about four blocks from the apartment at the Regent's canal -- you can also walk along the Regent's canal -- it is lovely). There are a two gastro-pubs/restaurants THE DOVE and THE CAT AND MUTTON, a French, two Turkish, an Italian, a new Tapas bar, and an Argentine steak restaurant. In addition Cooke's Eel and Pie shop, opened in 1900 and unchanged since then, is open for lunch. All very, very good.

There is OF COURSE Brick Lane with a million South Asian Restaurants and the BEIGEL shop open 24/7 and serving salt beef and smoked salmon bagels. Brick Lane is about a 15-minute walk from the apartment up Bethnal Green Road toward the City.

There is a TESCO EXPRESS on Hackney Road (very close to the apartment), a TESCO METRO (larger) on Bethnal Green Road, a SAINSBURYS LOCAL at the Bethnal Green Tube Station, a larger SAINSBURYS in Whitechapel, and a COSTCUTTER on Hackney Road (towards Old Street). On Mare Street there is an ALDI and a jumbo TESCO. ALL are easily walk-able. Small shops abound within one block.

KEELING HOUSE was designed by Denys Lasdun who was in turn influenced by Le Corbusier, Coates, and Lubetkin. Lasdun is best known for his work on the Royal National Theatre on the South Bank. During the 1960s and ’70s Lasdun also worked on a number of educational buildings, developing his recognizable vernacular of cubic towers, bare concrete and jutting foyers. As well as completing designs for Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and the Royal College of Physicians in Regent’s Park, Lasdun developed an acclaimed design for ziggurat-shaped halls at the University of East Anglia.
