A quiet, light-flooded flat in London 3/4 hour from Russel Sq., British Library, London main universities

A fantastic flat in London (3/4 hour to Russel Sq. and Euston: British
Library, UCL, Warburg Institute, Senate House). Zone 2, Hackney Downs or Hackney central, as well as buses directly to BL etc. (NB this flat is only available during the period indicated). Roof terrace, fully fitted kitchen, spacious bathroom with windw, 2 bedrooms (1 double bed, 140cm wide, and 1 single bed, 90 cm wide) and 1 living/study room. The Flat is a douplex, 1st and last floor of a converted period house. Very quiet street and flat, ideal working conditions. No extra charges apart use of telephone. Local shopping, restaurants, cinema (Rio), one of London's best Jazz clubs (Vortex) and theaters (Arcola, Hackney Empire, and Almeida, which is a bit further away). I live on my own and would prefer to rent to a single person or a couple, but max. of 3 persons is obviously also possible. Closest transport is the 393 bus which parts next door and goes via Stoke Newington via Highbury Islington (1 stop from here on the Victoria line to Kins Cross, i.e. BL) to Camden, or bus 253/254 to Piccadilly line (Manor House) or Victoria Line (Finsbury Park). The overland-line departs from Clapton station (5 min walk) and goes to Liverpool St (central line).

The flat was excellent, and just as described--perfect for me, my wife and young daughter. It was only 7 minutes walk from the Overground, and as there were trains every 15 minutes to Liverpool Street Station we we able to get into the centre of London quickly. The suburb incorporated a fascinating social mix. The canal 5 minutes down the hill along with the local parks made for interesting walks or places to jog. A particular plus was the flat's terrace, which provided a wonderful setting for summer meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Peter was always prompt, courteous and flexible in dealing with enquiries. Truly brilliant flat with a view! I have stayed in many SH over the years and this one was definitely among the best. The flat is just as advertised, has a lovely roof top deck. It is quiet, spotless, has a well-appointed kitchen and is a short walk from the Clapton Overground which connects one easily with Liverpool station. There is a green grocer a few minutes away. Our family of four stayed in Peter's London flat for three weeks over Christmas 2013. It was such a gorgeous place to stay . . .quiet, comfortable and cozy. We loved the book lined walls, the plants and eclectic furnishings. We also loved the fact that we could easily walk to grocery stores, play grounds and open natural spaces (Hackney Marshes). Peter was extremely helpful and considerate. He took the time to show us the ins and outs of the flat and explain public transport routes and places of interest. I stayed in Peter's lovely East London home for six weeks in early 2013. It's a fantastic flat, accurately described in the listing. Quiet and serene. Tastefully furnished, with a very well equipped kitchen and great books in abundance. It wasn't yet warm enough to properly use the beautiful balcony but I enjoyed looking down to the Hackney Marshes. The location is not exactly central but there are lots of buses connecting to tube/overground. Lovely Stoke Newington is 15-20 minutes walk away, and Chatsworth Road (10-15 minutes away) has many nice cafes and shops. Diverse neighbourhood. Peter is generous and helpful. Recommended. My wife, brother, sister and I stayed during July 2012, and although there were only 2 of us at any one time the apartment could readily have accommodated four. The apartment is very accurately described in the posting so I won't repeat that information except to say that it is indeed comfortable and commodious with all the resources needed for a pleasant stay, and exceptionally beautiful to live in. It was tempting to enjoy the atmosphere of the flat rather than plunge into the sights and excitement of Paris. The wifi was excellent and there is also a VOIP phone which can be used for free calls, but I never worked it out probably due to my limited French and we used our mobiles instead. We enjoyed the large screen TV, especially for live operas eg from Orange, and the Tour. You can turn on the French subtitles which helped us with French programs. It was fun to watch the 14 juillet telecast and then look out the window at the airforce fly by. Peter and Beatrice were friendly, effective and helpful in regards to briefing and orienting in the flat and making payments, which is always a bit difficult especially as we were coming from outside the eurozone (Australia and USA). Our deposit was returned in a timely manner. Security in the flat is excellent as you have to pass through 2 locked doors and then the front door has a very strong lock. The neighbourhood around Col. Fabien is very multicultural and alive, and of course close to Canal St Martin. You don't see tourists round here, we felt very safe the whole time though obviously one always keeps alert. The boulangerie downstairs on the corner opposite the Metro was very good, and there is another excellent one down Grange aux Belles towards the Canal. Not to mention Av. Secretan, well worth the short walk past the large Francprix supermarket on r de Meaux. The local bus 46 was convenient for getting to and from the Gard du Nord and on to CDG airport. The 75 bus takes you to the Pont Neuf and I often walked across the Canal St Martin and took the 39 down to the Quartier Latin via many landmarks such as the Palais Garnier. On the 6th floor you have to plan your trips, but we enjoyed our daily workouts. We would definitely come again and in fact hope to. Excellent Rob 8/31/2012 5:34:00 PM
