I highly recommend renting from Byron and Sharon Frey. I stayed in the studio flat for 6 weeks in May and June 2011 and absolutely LOVED everything about it. Byron and Sharon are lovely, kind, warm people and great landlords (right next door to the studio flat if you need anything), and the studio is one of the most efficiently and cleverly designed studio apartments I've ever seen. It's perfect for one person or a couple, for any length of visit. It feels much bigger than its actual size, especially since the bathroom is tucked away behind the kitchen and the bedroom is in the loft, and it has everything you need—a compact, but fully equipped kitchen (the fridge, dishwasher, and clothes washer/dryer are all tucked in there!); wifi; tv with basic cable; a landline phone; plenty of storage space everywhere you need it; and ample natural light pouring in from the French windows. Though it's on the front of the building and on the raised ground floor, the tree in front keeps things private (at least in the summer) and the firm bolts and locks on the windows keep you safe. Light pours in during the day and blackout curtains keep it dark and quiet at night. There's no dedicated desk, but I was perfectly comfortable working at the dining room table, especially when I could open the windows in fine weather. (There are also ample outlets throughout the flat.) And the location cannot be beat! Belsize Park is leafy, quiet, and relaxed, but also in easy reach of central London and everywhere else you might need to be. The flat is a 5-10 minute walk to Belsize Park tube station (Northern Line on the Edgeware branch—four stops to King's Cross and the British Library, three stops to Euston Station), Swiss Cottage tube station (Jubilee line—three stops into central London, six stops to Waterloo Station), Finchley Road tube station (Metropolitan and Jubilee lines), and a little further to either the Finchley Road & Frognal or Hampstead Heath Overground stations. My "commute" to the British Library took about 25-30 minutes door-to-door, and I easily got from the flat to various trains and coaches to other destinations. And everything you need is an easy walk from the flat: grocery stores (including huge Waitrose and Sainsbury's stores), pharmacies, restaurants, cafes, delis, fruit and vegetable stands, dry cleaners, cinemas, gyms, and so on. And you're less than a mile from both Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill Park/Regent's Park. Judging from the signs in the estate agents' offices and the prices of nearby hotels, the rental price is fair, too. Honestly, I can't recommend this flat highly enough! We spent four weeks at this wonderful flat. Belsize is a very nice neighbourhood, surrounded by parks (i.e. Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill, Regents Park) and very well communicated with the city by bus and underground. It is very quiet and at the same time has everything that may be needed at hand like restaurants or supermarkets. The flat is spacious, clean and very well kept. A spacious studio apartment in one of London's most pleasant neighborhoods -- and at a reasonable price. It may sound too good to be true, but it is most certainly not! My husband, toddler daughter, and I stayed here for three weeks and found the flat absolutely to our liking -- clean and well-kept, with conveniences like w/d and wi-fi, and as I said surprisingly spacious. And Belsize Park is such a lovely, liveable neighborhood with nearby tube stations, restaurants, grocers, etc., but quiet and residential away from the high street. (Academics take note: Belsize Park tube station is on the northern line just 5 stops away from King's Cross, so quick and easy access to the British Library.) Adam, Byron, and Sharon were also amazing to rent from -- easy to work and communicate with, but also just incredibly kind and generous. Thank you so much for our perfect London home base!
