This is a beautiful apartment--small but with high ceilings and wonderful Old World detailing--well fit for a couple, or a couple plus a kid or friend. It's on a quiet and charming block that's surrounded by a lot of Lyon's unsightly downtown redevelopment, but convenient to the train station, and (just a block away) the amazing upscale food market of the Halles Paul Bocuse. We regularly walked to the Presqu'Ile or Vieux Lyon from here (c. 15 and 25 minutes on foot, respectively), as well as north through pleasant, upscale neighborhoods to the Parc Tete d'Or. Dominique (French owner, married to Roger, who's English) speaks perfect English and proved a gracious hostess.

I can see where one might be drawn more to the charm of Vieux Lyon as a site for staying on a first visit, but I'd recommend this apartment (and would stay here again) for its overall combination of amenities and reasonable price.
