Quiet sunny loft with terrace near Madrid Rio

This flat is perfect for one or two people. It has a lovely terrace with plants on an automatic watering system, so no need to water them! The terrace is a great place to spend time working.... and even if it's raining, you can sit outside under the awning. The flat is on a quiet street near the Madrid Rio boardwalk that runs for kilometres along the Manzanares River. You can easily rent bicycles or electric scooters and go for a ride along the river. If you like parks, the Casa de Campo, the biggest one in Madrid, has biking lanes, walking paths, kayaking and boating, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a sports centre walking distance from the house. Or if you just want to have a nice meal or a drink on a terrace near the big lake, that's also an option. The flat is also close to Principe Pío station, a transport hub with its commuter trains, metro, and shopping centre. There is even a train straight to the airport that stops there. The flat is surrounded by buses that go to different parts of town such as Plaza España, Plaza Mayor, Plaza Jacinto Benavente (near Puerta del Sol), and Opera in about 15 minutes and another bus that brings you to Atocha in about 20 mins. You can easily reach the Complutense, ICADE, San Pablo CEU and other universities directly on line 6 or take the train to Carlos III from Principe Pio or Laguna station. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe with lots of parks and terraces to sit outside and have a drink near the river, the Casa Campo or along Paseo de Extremadura. The flat is cozy with high cathedral ceilings and a staircase up to the bedroom area. There is a bathroom upstairs next to the bed with a bathtub and another bathroom downstairs with a shower. The flat has lots of windows, so light pours in at all hours of the day, and the nice breeze from the Casa Campo is a blessing in the summer. The flat is heated in winter and I have ventilators for the summer. There is a big Carrefour market nearby and two other supermarkets a few minutes from the house. It is a 7-minute walk to two different metro stations (Puerta del Angel and Alto de Extremadura) and on the corner, two-minutes from the front door, there is a bus that brings you to Opera. Opera is only minutes walking to Madrid's city centre, La Puerta del Sol. The flat definitely has charm. It is located in a small three-storey building with 6 other flats, which is why it isn't noisy, and for those who don't like climbing stairs, there's an elevator. Hope to meet you soon!

About Me
Born and raised in Montreal in a bilingual home, I moved to Spain 32 years ago to learn Spanish and teach. I have travelled extensively to over 55 countries during this time, mostly to the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe. I took a 2.5 year sabbatical from the Pontifical University of Madrid, better known as ICADE, and am currently residing between Madrid and Vancouver, where I have just completed a degree in Hispanic Studies. I hope to continue teaching Spanish part-time at the University of British Columbia. Besides teaching, I'm a translator and consecutive interpreter. I speak French, English, and Spanish fluently and can communicate a little in German and Arabic. Looking forward to meeting you!

My husband and I stayed in Joyce’s apartment for three months and would happily return. The apartment is equipped with everything you need (kitchen/cooking supplies, towels and linens, etc) and is very functionally laid out. We especially enjoyed hanging out and having meals (and the fresh basil and rosemary) on the balcony. The location is great, too! There are cafés and grocery stores, as well as a market all very near by. We were happy to be near both the Casa del Campo (lots of trails for walking/running/bird watching) and the river. It’s also an enjoyable, 30-min or so walk into the heart of downtown and barrio la Latina. Joyce herself was wonderful to work with, always quick to respond, helpful, and upbeat. Highly recommended! I really enjoyed my stay in Joyce's flat for a month in the summer. It's a very comfortable place in a nice location with lots of amenities nearby and lots of green spaces. The flat itself is well equipped for a long stay so you don't have to worry about setting up anything but just stock on the basics. I loved the terrace and also that there is a nice living room with a separate kitchen and dining area. In the summer and while the city was warm the apartment itself was quite cool given it's on an elevation and gets a lot of breeze. Joyce was really responsive and communicative with any questions I had. I would recommend this flat! Excellent Dharini Parthasarathy 9/6/2019 7:02:00 AM
Joyce was a great host! I spent 3 months in Madrid and her apartment was all that you could want: roomy, well maintained and well located, just 15-20 minutes to the city center. The apartment is also well connected, with a bus line in front of the building and the metro stations just 5 minutes away. Oh, and I shouldn't forget to mention the terrace, which is extremely enjoyable for breakfast and dinner! Joyce handled all the details when I arrived and when I left, and communicating with her was always easy and fast. I would definitely recommend Joyce as a host. I had an excellent experience renting out from Joyce. The apartment was very clean and in great condition when I received the keys, and she was very responsive, always just an email or facebook message away. The apartment itself was spacious and comfortable. It's so nicely decorated, I always received compliments from visitors! It has 2 bathrooms and an extra mattress on the first floor, which made hosting people infinitely easier. Furthermore, its in a fantastic location. The neighborhood is not incredibly touristy so it was nice and quiet but at the same time very close to the city center. I particularly loved passing by the Royal Palace on the bus on my way into Centro! Excellent Andrea 4/25/2019 8:12:00 AM
