Stunningly beautiful, very large (2750 square feet) sunny apartment in central Marseille, with beautiful architectural detail; 3 hours to Paris by train

4th (top) floor with elevator. Lots of sun. Perfect for big family or for a couple who want room to work and room for visitors, and who enjoy architectural beauty and the convenience of city life. Elegant double living room is great for entertaining. Balconies on three sides, including one large enough for two people to eat dinner on marble-topped table while enjoying the sunset. Access to terrace on top of building (sheltered from street). High ceilings (4 meter), marble fireplaces, parquet floors. 279 square meters. Five bedrooms (or three bedrooms and two offices), huge living room, huge billiards/study/guest room, eat-in kitchen with original stone sink, three baths (two with stained glass windows), half-bath. Master bedroom has ceiling fan.

Apartment takes up entire 4th floor. Great views of Notre Dame de la Garde and of the hills surrounding Marseille. Double-paned windows keep out street noise.

High-speed Internet, piano, lots of bookcases (lots of books left for tenants' use). Fully equipped kitchen, clothes washer, exercise machine. Beautifully furnished. Pool table can be converted to covered table (it is shown covered in picture).

New master bath has sink, shower, bidet, granite counters, and the original stained-glass window; second bath (redone) has two sinks and a shower, and a granite floor; third (new) has tub, antique sink, chandelier, antique mirror and (in a separate room) toilet. Halfbath in hallway has sink and toilet.

Six rooms have fireplaces, all but one marble. We don't use them, but they are lovely (and handy for putting things on!). Most rooms have parquet floors. The others (halls, bathrooms, master bedroom, kitchen) have the original red tile (tomette) floors, except for one bath, where the floor is granite and ceramic tile.

Dining table expands to seat 12 or more (over Christmas 2015 we were nine adults and four children).

Lots of space for drying laundry: three long pulley-operated outdoor lines, several shorter fixed lines, an indoor drying rack, and retractible indoor lines.

On tree-lined boulevard leading to the St. Charles railroad station a 4-minute walk away. Short walk (5-10 minutes) to 2 metro lines, subway, tram, airport shuttle, market, flower market, regional library, cinema, Nouvelles Galeries, FNAC, GoSport, Habitat, opera, pedestrian shopping street. 15-minute walk to the Vieux Port, 30-minute walk to beach (or sign up for the bike-share program at 5 euros a year and go by bike, http://www.levelo-mpm.fr).

Easy access to Marseille's carshare program (http://provence.citiz.coop/particuliers)

20-25 minute walk to La Vieille Charité, which houses the Museum of Mediterranean Archeology and the Museum of Art of Africa, Oceania and Amerindia. 25-minute walk to the Fort Saint-Jean and the Mucem (Museum of Civilisations from Europe and the Mediterranean) with its outstanding public areas, all with beautiful views. 55-60 minutes by subway and bus to the Calanques, where one can hike in the hills or down to coves for swimming.
