La Vieille Grange, family accommodation in an 18th C stone barn in a pretty hamlet, Dordogne Valley

La Vieille Grange is a spacious and comfortable converted barn on the edge of a pretty hamlet overlooking woods and fields in the Dordogne Valley, about 15 kms from Sarlat, Perigord, SW France. It sleeps up to seven people, with two large airy double bedrooms (one also has another single bed on a mezzanine level), and a third, smaller bedroom has two single beds. There are two bathrooms upstairs (one is ensuite), and a separate WC with handbasin on the ground floor. The well-equipped kitchen area has a gas/electric cooker, dishwasher and a walk-in pantry, crockery and cutlery for up to 10 people. It has a country dining table seating eight and in the lounge area are three comfortable sofas, a Samsung flat screen TV that receives satellite signals for both English and French channels, and a CD/MP3 player and a small reference library of guide books on the area and cookbooks. All main rooms have independently adjustable electric wall heaters for the cooler months and fans for summer. The house sits in its own courtyard/garden and there is covered parking for two cars in adjoining barns.The nearest local village has a doctor's practice and a very good pharmacy; the local hospital is 14 kms away.

Looking east from the large windows on each floor are tranquil views of valley meadows; to the north are woodlands (home to birds and red squirrels). There are French doors on both sides of the ground floor - one set to the north and three to the south opening onto a terraced area and grassy courtyard which enjoys long hours of sunshine. In season there are abundant herbs and cherry tomatoes growing by the door closest to the kitchen.

The house is 30 minutes from Brive Valley of the Dordogne airport, which has direct flights from Stansted Airport, UK. The house is approximately a two-hour drive from Toulouse and one hour thirty minutes from Bergerac. The house lies in the heart of a region famed for its scenic, gastronomic and historical attractions. It is a pleasant 20-minute drive from the medieval charm and bustling food markets of Sarlat and within easy driving distance of the pilgrim centre of Rocamadour, many chateaux, and caves with prehistoric paintings.

My family and I stayed in Derek's and Margaret's house for 3 months and we had a great time. The house is very comfortable, clean and spacious, and it has an amazing view of the city. We are a family of 5 from Canada and we spent a month in Sydney and stayed in Margaret and Derek's Glebe home. We loved every minute of it! The house is cozy, well-appointed and situated in friendly Glebe, close to a multitude of restaurants, cafes and bakeries. and in close proximity to Darling Harbour. University of Sydney is within 5 min drive or you can walk in under 30min, the large Broadway mall is within 15 min walking as well. The house has great views of the CBD. Our family (parents and a three year old) stayed in Derek’s and Margaret’s house for eight weeks. The house is very spacious and well kept. The location of the house is perfect; it is close to CDB, wonderful parks, shops and restaurants. Public transportation is working well, and many of the key locations are at walking distance. We enjoyed our walks in the surrounding areas as well as spending nights at home cooking and barbequing. The amenities met all our expectations and we truly enjoyed our stay. Derek and Margaret are wonderful hosts and they provided us all the information and help we needed. Without hesitation, we recommend this house to other visitors. My family (spouse and 14 year old son) thoroughly enjoyed our one and a half month stay in this home in Glebe. The view of the city was fantastic and the home extremely comfortable. There were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and good public transit with the light rail and buses. The owners were quite easy to work with and we had no difficulties at all during our stay. We lived in this lovely cosy home in Glebe for three months and had a great time. Located in the heart of Sydney with stunning views from the terrace on CBD. The house serves all your needs with a lot of comfort and Margaret and Derek are great hosts. They provide you with any information (about the house, Sydney and surrounding) and we still love to meet and sit together with them for a nice evening.
