Large, unique house - near beach, close to Yale

Our home was built in 1889 as a barn with silo, then converted to a house in 1948 and remodeled from 2009-2017. Beautiful, private setting with water views (including brilliant sunsets), spectacular master br; two very ample additional bedrooms (each with its own full bath); large playroom or music/art studio with sleep sofa; plus a home office, also with sleep sofa, that can be used as a 4th bedroom. (Counting two sleep sofas, house easily sleeps 10.)

Private neighborhood beach (w/ kayak storage) two blocks away and also a large public beach a 10 minute walk away - great swimming and fishing. Yale campus is 12-mile, 20-minute drive from the house. (There's also a public bus that stops one block from us -- takes 45 minutes to or from the Yale campus.) The Metro North commuter train station is 2 miles from house and the ride is under 2 hours to Grand Central Station in New York, or 10 minutes to New Haven.

One of a kind home - see pictures and feel free to request more! (Not enough pictures allowed on the site to show all the beaches, beautiful bay and island, additional rooms and baths in the house, etc.) We both teach at Yale and would love to have other academics stay in the house during the spring of 2021, if the pandemic allows us to travel again for the fourth year in a row. Will provide contact information for our guests of the past three years if you read their reviews and want to ask them further questions about their time staying in the house and the area.

The Brenzels are amazing and so was their home. The property is amazing. We brought our family of 7 (5 kids) for a sabbatical at Yale. Access to Yale was really easy. Location to elementary and other schools was also great. Two of our kids were in Elementary school and went to the school down the street. They loved it. Our oldest two ended up doing online school with their school from home so we did not try out the Middle and High Schools, but the people we met in the area were very supportive of the schools. The property was pristine. The old barn-like outside is a fun exterior for a very updated interior. It also made the spaces in the house very unique. They keep it up so well and it was easily suitable for all of our 5 kids. The bedrooms are large, so we had a couple of the kids double up and still had plenty of room to hang out and there were plenty spaces for the kids to play without being on top of each other. We were here during the 2020 pandemic and the Brenzels were extremely flexible with coordinating their visit and never made us feel uncomfortable. Most of all, the Brenzels were so well prepared for our stay and made the transition extremely easy. I would highly recommend this home as a great place to stay. Staying at Jeffrey’s and Alda’s home was a privilege and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to have lived there for five short months. We were made welcome from the start with open and friendly communication, and we even had a home cooked meal before we moved in, which was a delight. The house is a beautiful peaceful haven. We both loved the light and warm kitchen, and the open fire in the lounge was wonderful in the evenings. The upstairs bedroom provided a panorama of the nearby Sound, watching the migratory birds return in the spring was truly memorable. The upstairs mezzanine turret is a peaceful place to read, take in the views, and cat nap in the sun. All in all, this was a great experience for us and we thank Jeffrey and Alda again for the opportunity. Excellent Linda 7/8/2019 12:37:00 AM
We, a familiy of four with two girls aged 15 and 12 stayed for two months in this house while I taught at Yale. Living in this house made this a great experience for the entire family. We loved the house: it has lots of space, is beautifully designed and abounding with nice details and tasteful objects. It has lots of light and outstanding views to the sea from different angles as well as all kind of amenities. We especially enjoyed to use the kayaks on the sea. The house is located at a very special and beautyful spot where different watersides of Milford meet. There is a small beach in close walking distance, and a nice neighbourhood; Milford is a small town which has everything you would need on a daily basis, and good schools. The commute to New Haven is easy and quick. The communication with the host was excellent: He was very helpful and generous and always replied immediately, so we really felt welcome and had an easy transition. He also left a manual with a lot of helpful details about the house and its surroundings. This outstanding house and its wonderful hosts made our stay very unique so we definitely recommend it! Jeff rented our house for two academic years. We spend the summers in this house and he traveled. He was a wonderful tenant and we wish he would rent the house academically forever! Jeff is thoughtful, easy going, kept the house in pristine condition and honestly the perfect guest. I would highly recommend renting your home to him or staying in his new home. Feel free to contact me for a verbal recommendation. Kristin Merrill cell 203-589-6995. Excellent Kristin Merrill 11/30/2017 7:04:00 AM
