Charming 3-bedroom house in Provençal village
L’Hirondelle is a charming house in a delightful Provençal village, within easy walking distance of shops and bars.
Perfect as a writing retreat, a quiet sabbatical period, or for anyone who loves the wonderful Provençal scenery and the good life in France.
This three-bedroom house with garden, built in 1760 on medieval foundations, is in traditional provençal style. It sleeps 5 and is situated on the charming village square in the centre of Mirabel-aux-Baronnies in the Drome Provençal.
The house has a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, which looks onto the village square with ancient plane trees and 13th century fountain. The spacious sitting room has a traditional provençal fireplace and original wooden beams. A small room off the sitting room serves as a library, as well as a spare bedroom with a double bed.
Upstairs, the master double bedroom overlooks the garden, with views over rooftops to the Mont Ventoux (1909m). A second large double bedroom looks over the village square, and up to the medieval church spire at the top of the village. There is a quiet third single bedroom on the first floor, and a shower room, with a bidet, w.c. and washbasin.
Downstairs, doors lead from the sitting room to a south-facing terrace and walled garden, with a vine, rosemary, thyme and other provençal herbs. The garden also has a table, chairs, parasol and a BBQ: it’s the ideal setting for aperitifs and a game of boules before an evening BBQ.
The house offers something for everyone: books, a stereo system and records, a piano, wifi throughout the house, and is a perfect base for a sabbatical retreat. On days off, explore this wonderful region, with its markets, pretty villages, vineyards, apricot and olive groves.
The village is fully equipped with amenities, with two bakers, a well-stocked village shop for groceries and local wines, a newsagent, post office, cash machine, and pharmacy, all within a few minutes’ walk. There is also a local bar and regular pizza van. The village has tennis courts and table tennis tables for general use (bring your own racquets). Parking is on the square in front of the house.
The house is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful region. The village of Mirabel-aux-Baronnies lies between the Rhone Valley and the Alps, 50 km NE of Avignon, in northern Provence, between the historic Vaison-la-Romaine to the south and Nyons to the north, a market town famous for its olives. The village is sited between the provençal landscape of olive groves and vineyards to the west, and the pre-Alps to the east, offering impressive hiking and mountain bike trails. In summer, there is choice of places to cool off: two waterparks, local rivers, and the spectacular gorge of the Vallée de Toulourenc.
