Big Sur Retreat
A charming geodesic dome on 2 acres. A rustic exterior with a lovely, cozy, interior, a well-equipped, spacious kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a great room, a hot tub.
Walk out the door and turn left for an untrimmed, romantic 3/4 mile creekside walk to the dramatic Bixby Beach.
The dome and surroundings are a quiet, distraction-free place to focus on work or a lovely spot to COVID shelter-in-place with your bubble where you feel more like you are on a retreat rather than isolated. There is plenty of hiking where you only infrequently run into a neighbor or a tourist who has wandered onto private property. The beach is private by default because the 300' cliffs that surround it are too steep for 99.9% of the gazillion tourists who park at the scenic turn out off of Hiway 1 to peer down with their cameras.
The pros and cons: This is a wild, lonely, and rugged part of the California Coast with few restaurants - but a third of them with spectacular views - imperfectly trimmed trails, tourists who generally pass on through, and dark skies to lose yourself star gazing while you sit in the hot tub. Major activities are hiking, biking, bird watching, beachcombing, meandering.
