Comfortable, Convenient Apartment with Unbeatable Views

Sunny one-bedroom 21st storey apartment with convenient access to downtown, McGill University, UQAM and Concordia University. Fantastic views over the mountain and across the city.

One double bedroom, a large open-plan living room with an office corner, a kitchen, bathroom (including a tub and powerful shower), and two capacious two-metre-long built-in closets. The sofa converts into a single bed for guests. There is a balcony. The apartment comes fully furnished, but I would be happy to move anything out if required. Suitable for a single person or couple.

One of the main highlights is that the apartment sits within a complex whose ground floor and basement comprise a small shopping mall, which can be accessed without going outside. Amenities include a supermarket, gym (with swimming pools, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room - http://www.clublacite.ca/en/index.html), health food store, pharmacy with a post office, food court, liquor store, coffee shop, bar, and a three-screen cinema. Particularly in the winter, it is incredibly handy to be able to meet so many needs without having the dress up and brave the snow.

Warm and cozy in the winter (thanks to under-floor heating and sturdy double glazing) and pleasantly breezy when you open the large windows in the summer. There are also air conditioning units for stickier days. Unlike many Montreal apartments, this one is well sound-proofed and insulated.

Rent includes electricity, heating and constant, instant hot water. Secure indoor parking can be rented and there is also a free bike storage room, as well as the opportunity to pay for extra storage space in the basement.

The location is ideal for Montreal’s universities. Walking distances run as follows: McGill, 10 minutes; UQAM, 5-20 minutes, depending on the campus; Concordia, 20-25 minutes. Place-des-Arts metro is three blocks away, as are its namesake’s Modern Art Museum and theatres. There is a bus stop just outside the door running north-south and connecting to the metro. The enticing neighbourhoods of Mile End and Plateau are within walking distance or a speedy bus or metro ride away. You are downtown in mere minutes and can stroll easily to the Old Port and Latin Quarter. Even closer are the entry points to the mountain’s hiking, biking, running and cross-country skiing trails, which can be walked to in around ten minutes.

The unit is within a modern, well-maintained and spotlessly clean complex with three swift elevators. On-site maintenance staff will come and fix anything within 24 hours, although there is rarely ever any need. Intercom door entry. The entire complex, including the shopping area, is fully accessible.

About Me
I am a professor of Film Studies at Concordia University so love this apartment for its convenient access to cinemas and the other cultural venues of Place-des-Arts. There's a great little art house-meets-commercial theatre - Cinema du Parc - right in the basement of this complex and they also play host to plenty of the screenings for this city's regular festivals. Going to see a film (or do the shopping) in the dead of winter without having to throw on layers of clothing is a huge plus for me and my guests. The Cinémathèque Québécoise is a short walk away too. I'm also a big walker, which is why I love living here. I can get to work at Concordia on foot in twenty minutes without every having to squeeze onto buses or metros. McGill and UQAM are even closer and I regularly use their libraries because they're even more convenient than my own institution's. The mountain is ten minutes away with its hiking, biking and cross-country skiing tracks. On foot, I can get to fascinating neighbourhoods like Mile End and the Plateau within half an hour, or they're an easy metro or bus ride away. The main shopping street is an effortless stroll of four blocks away. Like most academics, I write a lot from home and have a big desk set up there, benefiting from plenty of natural light and thick, sound-proof walls. I take breaks by going to the three-storey gym that's in the same complex, and which offers group classes, two swimming pools, a jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna. Having easy access to all these facilities (less than five minutes to get downstairs without having to put on snow boots in the winter) is an amazing plus for my quality of life.
