Beautiful apartment in historic residence in Narbonne (the heart of Roman Languedoc)

NOTE: ALL LINENS ARE PROVIDED. The apartment is available for short- and long-term rentals in the Fall of 2019 and beyond.

Located in 'centre ville' of beautiful Narbonne, the ancient capital of Occitania (modern-day Provence, Languedoc, and Aquitaine), this apartment is appreciated by its guests, many of whom return year after year to take advantage of the 'sunny south' while enjoying all modern comforts. Only 20 minutes to the beautiful beaches of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage, and close by a number of mythic Cathar castles, the city of Narbonne itself offers plenty of entertainment year-round. From its Michelin-starred restaurant to its genuine Italian pizzarias, and especially its renowned "Halles" (covered market), open every day of the year, it's a gourmand's paradise!

The apartment could not be more central: two minutes by foot in one direction, and you are at the magnificent Gothic cathedral St Just, next to the Place de l'Hotel de Ville (town square). Two minutes in the other direction, and you'll find yourself at the Canal de la Robine, a tributary of the Canal du Midi, which flows through the heart of the city, bordered on each bank with restaurants and bars à vin. Six minutes in yet another direction takes you to the Place de la Révolution/Léon Blum, with a park and more restaurants, and finally the main post office, newspaper shop and several banks are located four minutes away in the final direction.

The apartment is essentially one very large space, with enormous volume (4-metre-high ceilings). Wooden stairs lead to the sleeping loft with its extremely comfortable bed (180 cm, extra-large king size). The loft has two windows giving onto the street, two bedside tables, a low table, an armchair, and a ceiling fan, as well as a large closet with deep shelves and plenty of space for hanging clothes.

Back downstairs to the main living area, the very large, impeccably clean bathroom contains a window, a radiator, a hair-dryer, and several towel racks, as well as shelves and a cabinet full of luxury towels. And of course there is a sink (quite large), a toilet, a bidet, and a newly remodeled shower (90 cm2).

The apartment boasts a "good cook's kitchen," with every cooking implement you could want -- pots and casseroles of all sizes, good quality knives, and even a tagine and a mandoline. A shopping "caddie" (trolley) is at your disposal to help you bring back delicacies from "Les Halles", just a few minutes across the canal by foot, or from Monoprix, just steps away at the Place de l'Hotel de Ville.

The newly-installed air-conditioning/ heating unit is a dream: quiet and incredibly efficient. The washing machine and separate dryer are German-made and -- while not large by North American standards -- are the biggest available for sale in France.

Lovely character apartment in the heart of Narbonne. Laura, the owner is very accommodating to make sure your visit is authentic. Lovely beaches and vineyard villages are close by. Excellent Kris 9/4/2020 2:47:00 AM
Laura's apartment in Paris was just lovely, as is Laura herself. She was attentive and helpful and a delight to converse with [over email]. Who could not love Paris?! But Laura's apartment made it extra special. We hope to return one day. Excellent PETER 9/2/2020 10:18:00 PM
Everything about this booking and stay was excellent. Laura's communication and assistance was outstanding and she went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasant one. Instructions were clear and concise and the apartment was clean and as described. It was in a quiet part of town with easy access to everything and lovely local bakeries and restaurants. Our two boys had the best time of their life. Even on the last day when Laura had ordered us a taxi and there ended up being a fun run on our street (so the street was blocked) I was able to call Laura in the US (and wake her up - sorry again Laura) - she was able to rebook the taxi for us. Wonderful! Excellent Paul Hopkins 9/4/2017 7:06:00 PM
Everything was wonderful with our stay in this two bedroom apartment overlooking the marina. The location is very safe and has easy access to all the tourist sites. Notre Dame and Ile Saint Louis are within walking distance and there are Metro and bus stops very close to the apartment. It was so nice being able to walk out the door and be steps away from the Seine River. You can walk across the bridge over the river and be in the Jardin des Plantes, which has beautiful gardens and a zoo. Restaurants are within walking distance too, as is The Marais, my favorite area of Paris. The host was very helpful in recommending restaurants, off-the-beaten path sites not to miss and the easiest way to get to the sites. The instructions for getting from the airport to the apartment, codes to enter the building and how to operate everything in the apartment were well written and easy to follow. There are double locks on the doors! I felt very safe. The living room and large dining room overlook the marina and the two bedrooms have windows that overlook the garden area. It's a great place to stay, so much better than a hotel!!! There's also an elevator to go up the one floor to the apartment, although the stairs are wide and easy to walk up too. The beds were comfortable and there are desks in each bedroom. There's a nice armoire in the bedroom I stayed in. The kitchen has everything you need and the bathroom is clean and nice. The water pressure was fine. I wouldn't have changed anything or asked for more! The host was always available and assisted me in booking a taxi to the CDG airport for my return trip! Our month in the Narbonne apartment was beyond expectations. Communication with Laura was always good. The preparation and cleaning of the apartment was thorough and we moved in to make ourselves a "home from home" with every amenity provided to do this. The excellent Narbonne market is within easy walking distance and in itself, is a highlight of this medium sized city. We did not have our own transport but were able to travel around the area either by bus, train (when not on strike!) or with 24 hour car rentals. Other days were spent people watching alongside the canal or in the large square. All this added up to give us a very genuine French experience! Thank you Laura!
