Sunny Artist's Refuge in Quiet, COVID-Safe Neighborhood (furnished)

This charming updated 1920s home is the perfect refuge for anyone looking to get away from winter and retreat in someplace beautiful and restful, with original artwork, comfortable beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a large selection of books, musical instruments, a surround sound entertainment system and 42-inch flatscreen TV, and an enclosed back yard patio with outdoor dining space, heat lamps, a hammock, citrus trees, and a gorgeous writing studio.

Kids will enjoy our trampoline, bikes, and separate playroom in the basement.

Our home is located in a very friendly, COVID-safe, highly walkable neighborhood just minutes from hundreds of miles of trails in the Oakland hills. UC-Berkeley, Mills College, Holy Names, and St. Mary's are all a short drive away. The weather is generally pleasant year-round in Oakland (we eat outdoors most evenings), and February-July are some of the very best months! You'll find flowers blooming, oranges and lemons on our trees, plenty of sunny days, and lots of space to play outdoors.

Writing Studio: This gorgeous writing studio has hickory-paneled floor and walls a sit-stand desk, book shelves, and an Aeron chair.

Beds:
Master bedroom has a TempurPedic mattress. Second bedroom has three very comfortable Twin mattresses. Silky, light-weight bamboo and/or high quality cotton sheets and blankets provided for all beds.

Kitchen:
Fully equipped with everything you need to cook, including a Vitamix blender, slow cooker, KitchenAid mixer, and top of the line Hendrix knives. Also includes Bosch dishwasher and desk work space that could be for distance learning or working from home.

Living Room: Built-in surround sound entertainment system with 42-inch TV, BluRay player, piano and guitar, and artwork by Bay Area artists. You'll also find many wonderful books throughout the house (we are both writers).

Bathroom: Full bath with shower with tub. Plush Turkish bath towels provided.

Heating/cooling: Both bedrooms and the living room have built-in thermostat-controlled heaters. Both bedrooms have window fans provided that cool the rooms well. There are also ceiling fans in the master bedroom and living room. We have one window a/c unit, though most months you won't need it.

Outside space: Enclosed back yard includes sunny deck, patio with dining area, trampoline, grass lawn, citrus trees, and hammock. Multiple heat lamps make it possible to dine outdoors most nights of the year.

Kids: Under our back yard porch there is a small door to a space our kids call "the fort," a cozy play room that is fully insulated and has books and lots of toys, a child's armchair, and is a great place for kids to safely play.

About Me
I am a fiction writer, Fulbright scholar, and the host of Shelter in Place, a podcast about coming together in a world that pulls us apart (shelterinplacepodcast.info). Our family of five has temporarily moved across the country to get help with the kids from our extended family. I was previously a teacher and coach at Mills College, where I received my MFA in fiction. My husband is also a writer, and we have enjoyed opening our home to other academics and professionals during our previous sabbaticals in the Philippines and Mexico.
