Oaxaca City, Mexico - Sabbatical or holiday retreat (1-2 person bungalow in quiet location in beautiful rural part of town)

The beautiful bungalow is suited for a single person or a couple of visiting researchers, holidaymakers or those looking for a retreat on the edge of this special city in the south of Mexico. The bungalow is arranged as an open floor unit, with a raised area with a double bed/mattress and the lower area serving as a sitting area, with a futon sofa that opens into a double bed; and as a study area with work desk and a large closet. This living area connects to the kitchen/diner, equipped with fridge, cooker and all the necessary kitchen equipment. The beautiful bathroom is adjoining, with a walk-in shower.
The bungalow is set within the property of the owners, with a large area of maize field, trees, soil conservation work and vegetable garden. The bungalow is separate from the main house, but close by, with its own porch (incl. use of hammock) in the shared garden.

The bungalow is located in a rural area in the foothills of the northern part of the city, next to San Felipe del Agua, about 15 minutes by car to the centre of the historical part of the city of Oaxaca. The local village (an ejido) is 1.5km by trackroad. You can walk out of the door and along the path to be walking up the hill overlooking the valley, or take a cycle ride (mountain bikes can be lent) through the area and into the city (a steep hill on the way back, though!). If you plan to go into town at a daily level, then a car is better, otherwise, there are local buses to the ejido, then mototaxis, or taxis from and to the city you can take.
If you are happy to walk down the hill to the public bus stop (which takes you to the city centre for 8 pesos) or take mototaxis or taxis, you will be ok without a car. The walk is 1.5 km on the track road - some 15 minutes - downhill or uphill some 30 minutes. A taxi from Oaxaca's main bus terminal, the ADO, costs aprox. $120 pesos; to go into town you have to call for a taxi or hitch a ride with neighbours. Otherwise, we recommend a car. The casita is 7km away from the main square of Oaxaca, which by car can take 15-30min, depending on traffic.
The internet connection is good to work from home.

I had a beautiful stay at the casita for one month. The place and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful - the photos barely do it justice! The two owners are attentive, kind and communicative. There are two well behaved dogs on the premises, one who tends to stay around the house and the other who is always willing to play. I'm a 26 year old female travelling alone, I didn't have a car and don't speak Spanish and I felt completely safe. It's a little far from the centre, I only went there once. I went into the village many times but mainly stayed around the house as a quiet retreat time (with great internet). I really enjoyed my time at the casita and would stay again. We had a quiet and peaceful stay at Jutta's guest house. A really lovely spot to rest after three months' travel. With a beautiful view over Oaxaca and everything you need nearby, it's a great spot to explore the area from. Would definitely recommend having your own vehicle, as it can be quite a trek into and out of the city with public transport. Jutta and her husband are such wonderful, kind, and caring hosts. I would absolutely stay there again. Excellent Kaliascope 8/19/2019 9:35:00 AM
