Avoid this Landlord at all costs. There was money issues with this Landlord from the beginning. I know this property is a continual rental - but it has four reviews from 2012 and 2013. Yet there are none through May, 2018. While at first I thought the experience would be positive - within the first month, after asking to visit the apartment to measure windows - I came home early in the evening to find Lance Lee sitting at the table using the internet making himself clearly at home. This was way beyond measuring windows which takes about 15 minutes max. I didn’t know him well and I found this unprofessional and inappropriate. Second, based on this ‘window project’ - I was told that such window work would be done over the holidays when I was away - hence the break in lease while such work could be done. However, Lance NEVER mentioned that he was going to rent out the place instead during that time. - I moved my stuff out and I did not clean floors because as I understood it - construction guys were coming in. Also, there was an issue with the sofa - but with Lance living hours away - I didn’t make a big deal about it because it was a costs to him that was not an emergency. It was easily fixed. A day after I arrived in my hometown of Chicago for the holidays - I get ranting long insulting emails asking me why the place isn’t cleaned better and why didn’t he know about the sofa. These emails were filled with highly emotional and accusatory content whereby Lance needed me to immediately send him 100 Euros so he could clean the apartment to his level of acceptable because he WAS renting it out after all. Due to the content in the emails I was convinced that any and all interactions with Lance Lee was going to be problematic. I wasn’t going to trust him with my deposit as I consulted with a French attorney and give him the run down on what had happened. In turn it was decided that I would settle up with Lance when I moved out as knowing his issues with money, I didn’t trust him. My fear was that there was going to be some long bogus list of charges and therefore it was best to hold the money and settle up in the end. All worked out fine and he returned all remaining funds to me - I didn’t owe him anything.

----Reply from listing owner:Well! This is a rather unfortunate, libelous and insulting retaliation to a review that was left upon the tenant's departure regarding damage and withheld rent. I believe the original review is posted below, from 2017. As a review feed is a rather poor forum for the settling of scores, I would simply like to say that I have been a proud member of this community as a proprietor and as an academic since at least 2012; other reviews of the apartment in question – and myself – are available in the Air BnB community ((www.airbnb.com/rooms/4472378 – www.airbnb.com/users/show/23203873)) and through Lodgis.com. So far, the reviews have been at least honest and I encourage anyone with misgivings who may still be interested in the apartment to consult those (slightly more expensive) platforms before being to swayed by the vitriol in this one individual commentary. I am naturally at your disposition to answer any questions regarding the circumstances of this past rental

We stayed in this apartment for three months in the fall of 2012. The apartment is as good as they come and the pictures on the website are exactly as we found it upon our arrival. The flat is very well appointed and equipped and it has everything you wish for. The compact kitchen may feel small but once you start cooking it is obvious a cook designed it—as small as it is, it’s a dream kitchen. The living/dining room is very comfortable and cozy with a large table in the dining area and a comfy sofa(bed) in the living room. The pull out sofa bed came in very handy for the occasional visitor and turned out to be really comfy. Our landlord, Lance, went out of his way to make us feel at home from the moment we stepped into the apartment. He was there to greet us and show us the ropes and had many good tips and hints for us about the neighbourhood. Had it not been for the fantastic flat in a great neighbour hood and a terrific landlord our visit in Paris would certainly not have been the success it was. Thank you! We had an amazing 2-month stay at this beautifully renovated apartment in Montmartre. We perused the cobblestone streets of the wonderfully eclectic and artsy surrounding neighborhoods, and with the métro mere steps from our front door, were able to easily explore the rest of the City of Light as well. I had a wonderful month at the Rue Briquet address. The owner met my cab on my day of arrival and helped me up the stairs with my suitcase. When I arrived at the apartment, wine, cheese, milk, and cereal awaited me, which was wonderful. He showed me around and answered a number of questions throughout the month I stayed there. I feel that the photos accurately represent the apartment. It is very chic with nice furnishings, a comfy bed, and beautiful artwork and dishes. The bedroom is small, and the closet is a little hard to get to, but otherwise I was very satisfied. The stairs might be difficult for the elderly, but I didn't have a problem with it. The apartment is right on a Metro line, and although you might have to change lines, everything is easily accessible. I found the owner very easy and fair to work with. The price is very reasonable if you compare it with other listings and the month-long stay really allows you to get familiar with the area. I had a great experience. My wife and I spent six fantastic months in this lovely apartment in 2011-2012. It is a classic Paris apartment in a classic Paris building, but renovated to the highest standards. The owner and his wife could not have been more helpful, friendly, and professional. And they passionately love this place. The owner, an accomplished designer specialising in Paris apartments, has paid attention to every detail, retaining the original charm, but completely modernizing and renovating everything, and not just cosmetically. The owner is extremely responsive to any questions, and always available. Having lived in the apartment himself, he is also an expert on the neighborhood. We loved the renovation. The kitchen and bathrooms are marvels of how to maximize a limited space in beautiful style. We looked at several apartments in Paris, and also rented another one in 2011. One of the things which distinguishes this one is that the owner treats it as his own - in fact it was his family home, and he still loves it. It's not a "rental property" with third-rate furnishings. A huge differentiator is the kitchen. Again, the owner is a cook, and you get a cook's kitchen, not a closet with a microwave. You will want to market, cook, and eat here. The renovation is quite new, so the heating is excellent (we were there is the middle of winter), hot water is plentiful, shower is up to American standards (!), the washer-drier is new, etc. The location is wonderful, you step out of the door into the middle of Montmartre - one of the best bakeries in Paris is on the other side of the street, bars and restaurants at every price point. You are close to two Metro stops on two different lines for getting around, although you will also find yourself just loving the neighborhood. But the apartment itself is very quiet - in fact the bedrooms are in the rear and utterly quiet. There is no interior noise at all - we never heard our neighbours. It's a real sanctuary in the middle of one of the liveliest parts of Paris. We did not regret for a moment renting this space, and loved getting to know the very charming owner and his wife. It's a cliche, but you really can live like a local when you stay here, not like a tourist. From a price-point perspective, given its location and condition, this is also extremely good value.
