Classic Parisian apartment just off Canal St. Martin

This is a classic 1/2 bedroom Parisian apartment with original detail in a beautiful Hausmann building a half block from Canal St.-Martin in the 10th arrondissement (Metro République). The fourth-floor apartment is brilliantly sunny and has casement-window exposures on both the front and interior courtyard. It has a large bedroom with walk-in closets, modern bath, modern kitchen with all the mod cons. The living room is a typical Parisian "double sejour" where the larger two-thirds w/ two windows and the fireplace functions as the living room while the other third with one window can double as an optional second bedroom (and can be closed off). There we have an expensive "quotidian" sofa-bed which one guest described as "astonishingly comfortable" plus built-in closets. The apartment is furnished with a mix of modern and pre-war furniture, art nouveau and art deco antiques, hand-woven persian carpets. At 66 square meters, this apartment is very comfortable for 2 but can also accommodate 4 people. Everyone loves this apartment and the location. This a hip neighborhood with all kinds of restaurants, organic markets, chic shops, traiteurs, parks and beautiful walks nearby and yet it is definitely still a very French neighborhood, not a tourist scene. Watching the adorable children coming and going from their Ecole Maternelle across the street is a treat. The renowned Pain et des Idées, voted the "best bakery in Paris" is on our corner. The Hotel du Nord, subject of Eugène Dabit's 1929 novel of habitué life in the Canal quarter (and Marcel Carné's 1938 film), is across the canal. The 17th century Hôpital St. Louis with its gardens is a short walk up from the canal. The community choirs that turn out for the July Fête de la Musique Canal Saint Martin are a riot.

About Me
I have a PhD in comparative history from UCLA. I had some post-docs but did not pursue an academic career. I've traveled a fair bit -- Latin America, Africa, China. I've had a few vocations -- sailboat rigger, trans-africa adventure travel leader, and carpenter-builder but now I'm back to writing, mostly on environmental issues, especially capitalism and the environment. My first book, Green Capitalism: The God That Failed was published in 2016 (World Economic Association Press). My second book, CHina's Engine of Environmental Collapse (Pluto Press) came out it July 2020. I'm also a co-founder of the website systemchangenotclimatechange.org. My wife and I live in New York City.
