Exceptionally beautiful, large family house in central Paris, set in green oasis

Our book-lined home is a haven of peace in the heart of Paris, an unusual house on three levels, with high ceilings, skylights, and two large, very green terraces. We moved in over the summer of 2014, after an extensive renovation by an Italian architect.

At the ground level is the entrance and beyond it the service area - coats, storage, washer/dryer room. On the main level there is a bright, wide living and dining space, illuminated by large windows and skylights. A bar/cookbook library separates it from the luminous, open kitchen, which is extremely well equipped with all the implements and high-end appliances (such as a Falcon gas/electric range) needed for serious cooking. There is a lovely double bedroom with a desk, one spacious and recently renovated children's bedroom with two beds and two desks, a large bathroom (with separate soaking tub and large shower), and a guest WC. The living room sofa opens into an excellent double bed, very useful if you have overnight guests. The main living/dining room, kitchen, and both rooms all look out onto the terrace and its profusion of plants and trees (including a magnolia, a fig tree, a palm tree, and more). On warm summer nights, it is a pleasure to dine outside. Throughout the house, ceilings are high and windows tall. At mezzanine level, there is a study with two desks, and the master bedroom with skylit en-suite bathroom (separate soaking tub and large shower here as well), walk-in closet. Here too is the second, south-facing terrace, great for soaking in the sun, planted with edible herbs and the like. There is an excellent upright piano. There are many books and CDs, a stereo system, a large flat-screen TV, and wifi. We have a parking place in the building's garage next door, and have the house cleaned twice a week. Note that there are two staircases so this might be a tricky place for very young toddlers; it is otherwise very child-friendly (we have young children of our own).

This is an unusual, exceptional place, airy, bright and quiet, built to high standards, decorated with a combination of Indian and Moroccan textiles and modern Scandinavian furniture, conceived around the greenery of the terraces. It is completely private and set back from the street at the far end of a secure alleyway, off a busy street in the midst of what is known as Paris's "Little India" (the only authentic Indian restaurants in town are literally downstairs), close to the Gare du Nord and all possible transportation, as well as the amenities of the hip 9th and 10th arrondissements. A few minutes away on foot is the Canal Saint-Martin and the Récollets garden. Closer still is the Marché Saint-Quentin, a lovely covered market, open every day except Monday. There is a profusion of good food shops within walking distance, and some of the city's most innovative restaurants are close by as well.

Metro lines 4 and 5 as well as RER lines B and D - as well as the Eurostar to London and the Thalys to Brussels - are two minutes away. The RER B takes 7mn to Saint-Michel/Notre Dame, Luxembourg and beyond, and half an hour to Roissy airport. Metro line 4 will get you to Saint-Germain and line 5 to Bastille, both in less than 15mn. A dozen bus lines run from the bus station across the road and the stop up the street. The area itself is busy and multicultural. But once inside the house, one feels transported to the countryside. We love the combination.

Noga's house is truly great, big and beautiful, a green Oasis in Paris. All works great; we had a very nice 1 month stay in 2015. Excellent Jorge Friedman 7/17/2016 6:10:00 PM
