Beautiful family home in vibrant East Redfern/Surry Hills close to USyd, UNSW, UTS

Character Sydney terrace (built in the 1890s) with modern architect-designed renovation to create a spacious, light-filled home in a fantastic location.

Easy access to UNSW, the University of Sydney, UTS and Notre Dame by bike (we ride to UNSW and USyd, takes less than 15 minutes), walking (about 40 minutes), or bus (around 15 minutes). Also well placed for accessing the rest of Sydney and beyond: 20 minute walk to Central Station (trains to Macquarie, buses to ANU), 15-20 minute drive to the airport.

The house is ideal for a family, or even an extended family as there is a studio at the rear of the property with its own bathroom. The accommodation includes:
• Main bedroom with queen bed, ensuite and north-facing balcony.
• Large second bedroom with bunk bed and one single bed, and lots of kids toys and books.
• Small play room near the kids' bedroom, with table and chairs, dress ups, toys etc.
• Studio space with a queen bed, small bathroom, desk and sitting area above the garage.
• Modern kitchen with dishwasher, gas cooktop and fan-forced oven. Opens onto sunny north-facing garden, which has herbs and a few veges growing.
• Living room looking onto central lightwell (with mural by local artist Claudia Damichi) and kitchen/dining area.
• Lock-up garage opening onto laneway at the rear of the property, with bikes, scooters and plenty of storage space.

There is wireless internet throughout the house.

Located in hip East Redfern, surrounded by cafes, galleries, boutiques, bars and restaurants. Major supermarkets, specialist grocery stores and bakeries are all within a short walk. Easy access to beaches and the CBD by bus. Centennial Park and Prince Alfred Park (with newly renovated, award-winning public swimming pool) are within walking/cycling distance. We highly recommend goget.com.au for carsharing – there are many cars very close to our house. The Bourke Street cycle path runs past the end of our street.

There is a very strong local community and the area is great for kids. Excellent local primary school and preschool are a short walk away. There are also several childcare centres nearby (our kids went to a great Montessori place just around the corner), two great public libraries and a number of local playgroups and activities for kids. Our street is filled with families, and we can recommend local babysitters. There are several parks and playgrounds nearby which are a great place to meet the many friendly kids and parents living in the area.

If you don't have kids, you can take advantage of the many bars and restaurants nearby.

The house has lots of eco-features: solar power, solar hot water, compost and a worm farm (our neighbours would be happy to babysit if you'd rather not deal with them).

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Redfern home in Sydney. It is situated in a lovely and vibrant family friendly area, yet close to the City and all that Sydney has to offer. It is especially suited to families, and is well stocked with high chairs, toys and kids things. Amelia and Lee have been fantastic hosts, very communicative and accommodating.
