Architectural Gem in the Magnificent Vermont Countryside

On offer is a big, beautiful home in the Vermont countryside with magnificent views of both the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks. Construction of the house was the realization of a long-time dream by my father, who in a former lifetime taught English Literature at Princeton. He was passionate about books and reading & writing, and the house is a reflection of his passion. My mother was an avid home cook, and made certain in the construction process that the kitchen would accommodate her needs as a cook and baker.

The house was designed by Turner Brooks, formerly Dean of the Architecture School at Yale, and built in the early 1990s. Noteworthy features include a curved wall at the Living Room end of the house, and a cutout ceiling in the center of the Living Room that opens into a second floor Library well-stocked with a wide variety of books. The house rises to a third level at the other end of the house, where the views of the mountains are most spectacular. This room can function as a Writer's Retreat or a Bedroom, or both. The kitchen is fully equipped for all manner of cooking, from an intimate family meal to a more elaborate holiday feast for 10+. There are two spacious porches, both with views into the valley and beyond, one screened for buggy summers, the other open to nature.

Situated on a quiet country road this is a perfect setting for quiet contemplation and creativity, or for a brisk walk or cross-country skiing. The 100 year old barn has space suitable for an art studio, or two, and has indeed been used in this capacity for years. Heat is available for the colder months in one of the studio spaces.

The house is located 5 minutes from Brandon, VT, 20 minutes from Middlebury, VT, 35 minutes from Rutland, VT, and one hour from Burlington, VT. There are airports in Rutland and Burlington, and train and bus service to Rutland.

The house is available for long-term rental at a monthly rate, or for short-term rental on a per night basis.

About Me
After earning his Masters degree in Literature from the University of Minnesota, my father taught at Princeton University in the 1950s. He ended up with a career in Civil Service, and upon his retirement he and my mother built their dream home in the Vermont countryside, twenty minutes from Middlebury College. The home, built in the early 1990s, was designed by Turner Brooks, who was at the time the Dean of the Architecture School at Yale University. This home is the one offered for rent on Sabbatical.com.
