Russel Valley Retreat

"Russel Valley Retreat" looks out over a pristine valley, with a Sierra Mountain Range backdrop. The valley is famous for the emigrant trail, the cabin was once owned by a rock climbing legend, but the true magic of this special retreat lies within the ever-changing valley, the activities of countless bird species, nightly frog chorus, and expansive, endless starry skies.
Hike, walk, bike, snowshoe, ski, fish, explore, relax, and recharge all within a short distance of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

The little cabin is extremely cozy, perfect for a retreat up in the mountains. One half of cabin is the living room & kitchen and the other half is the bedroom with double bed, bath and a reading nook with a twin bed. It is more 1 bedroom and a half (double bed in one area and twin in another-so 3 people sleeping comfortably) with a full kitchen.

Nestled in Russel Valley, it's ideal for people who want to get a little off the grid, while still being close to everything the Tahoe/Truckee area has to offer. While only 10 miles from downtown Truckee and 11 miles from Tahoe Forest Hospital it feels as if you are going back in time to the 'ole West. You can walk (and see from the cabin) a post quoting wagon train explorers on the original Emigrant trail. The cabin was once owned by the first man to climb "El Capitan", Warren Harding, it was also the first cabin in this area, originally used by the Forest Service.

For winter months the area is great snow-shoeing, cross country skiing and about 20/30 minute drive to Northstar, Alpine or Squaw Valley from the cabin door. Main source for heat is wood burning stove.
The cabin is just off Russel Valley Rd, the property is 6 acres with two cabins.. Russel Valley is absolutely wonderful for horseback riding. You can often see neighbors riding by on a weekend with their dogs.
I am an animal lover and welcome dogs, I know that many dogs can be the perfect guests. I do, however, have one older cat and two dogs (one small and one big), so I ask if you have a dog that is aggressive with smaller animals, cats or cannot respect the premisses, please make the best choice for all considered.
There is a nice selection of books, a few games & no TV, but I do have wifi.

Hope you can come to enjoy the peacefulness Russel Valley has to offer.

About Me
I began my long love of traveling, hosting and being a house guest in my late teens. I have traveled and lived in Europe, Africa and Asia. I love meeting and hosting people from all over. I am an outdoor, environmental and animal enthusiast, but most importantly appreciate a good view. I cannot live without my my 3 "f's": family, friends and furry things! I love long walks with my dogs, the art of cooking, story telling, and just about any craft. I grew up in Tahoe City, on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, I know many of the magical spots this region holds. My degree is in Primatology. I am an Executive Director of a nonprofit in environmental education. I am respectful and hope to make you feel at home.
