Beautiful stylish countryside villa in the Dordogne

In this secluded and rural part of the Dordogne, on the borders of the Lot, a detached, south facing, renovated Perigordian farmhouse, with its own private swimming pool (lightly salted, doesn't taste of chlorine) and internet access. At the end of a country lane surrounded by lush rolling hills covered with chestnut and oak forests, Marou offers complete privacy, a perfect base for relaxing or activity holidays. The property (which is the owners' holiday home) lies 3.5km from Villefranche du Perigord, a bastide (fortified medieval) town dating from the 13th century with a covered market, square, and all facilities for shopping including 3 food shops, a delicatessen, 2 bakeries, 2 butchers, a hardware store and English newspapers. It also has a tennis court, a boules court, a swimming pool and in the season a cinema with some English language films. The river Dordogne at Siorac and Domme is 30 mins drive north and the vineyards of the Lot valley are nearby.

About Me
I worked in academia for many years, culminating in working at the Royal College of Art. I'm now retired and we have a house in SW France which we stay in when it's not rented out. It always seems a shame to leave a nice home empty so it seems logical to rent our home out to academics travelling to London. Our home in France is also ideal, especially for academics who require a very tranquil environment.

Me and my partner had a wonderful stay, for close to a month, at Gail's lovely lovely flat. The location is incredible, the flat is cozy, comfortable and wonderfully furnished. I particular recommend the balcony for lazy weekend breakfasts and coffee, or late summer drinks. Also, Gail is a wonderful landlord who looked after our every need while we were there.

ABOUT LISTING # 107336 (DORDOGNE) We stayed at Marou for September and October 2018. The house is located at the very end of a farm track. There is no passing traffic and only the post van calls. There are friendly neighbours nearby but Marou is beautifully tranquil and private. Below the house is a magical valley where a quiet early morning or evening stroll will offer you glimpses of deer, wild boar, ravens, green woodpeckers and other bird and animal life. The pool was warm enough to use right up until mid-October and the pool side, with its sunshades offers the most wonderful spot to sit and work and reads and maybe snooze when your writing isn’t quite flowing. There’s a beautiful walk through sweet chestnut woods into the village of Villefranche du Périgord where you’ll find everything you might need - cold beer, good wine, two village supermarkets, and a world class patisserie - try the tartlette pomme. If you want to explore further afield, there are impressive chateaux and abbeys such as Biron and Cadouin, and bastide towns such as Monpazier, Belvès, Villfranche itself, and Montcabrier. ABOUT LISTING #106822 (LONDON) We rented this flat for two months in the summer of 2017 and had a terrific experience. The flat was well equipped, comfortable, quiet, and in a very good location, close to the Tube and buses and nearby shopping, groceries and restaurants. The landlord was quickly available by phone and email, and she was quick to fix a problem that we were having with the water. Highly recommended. Excellent Sid 8/12/2017 12:51:00 PM
