About	I am a professor of German literature and literary studies at the University of Konstanz since 2001 and an extraordinary professor in the Department of Modern European Languages, University of Pretoria. I was a regular visiting professor at the University of Chicago 2004-9 and a visiting professor at several places in the U.S., e.g. Berkeley (in 2015). I am happily married with Eva who works in the same field at the University of Munich and a devoted father of three sons, Julian (born in 1989), Janis (born in 2009) and Jaron (born in 2015). We love Berkeley, the light, the views, Lake Anza, the university, and our friends there. The last time we stayed in Berkeley was in 2019 and before in 2014. Both times we spent several weeks there and rented a house near UC Berkeley, where my wife and me both worked: my wife as a visiting scholar, myself as a Max Kade Professor. On our last stay our two kids went to an international school/kindergarten – and they really loved the welcoming and open-minded atmosphere! That's why we always wished to come back and stay for a longer period if time. Since my wife got a fellowship from the famous Humboldt Foundation we are lucky to come back in August 2021 and stay until May 2022. Of course our two smaller children will come with us and go back to their 'old' school. They can't wait to see their school friends again and head to lake Anza!
