Research & Writing Retreat

I am a professor of English (for 22 years so far), currently working on a biography of American author Catharine Maria Sedgwick (1789-1867), who travelled and wrote about Germany and Switzerland (among other places that I have already visited). I am eager to follow Sedgwick's footsteps through Germany while researching and writing her life story. Ideally, I would find a home where my daughter (soon-to-be 14) and husband could also visit; we are animal lovers and would happily house- or pet-sit! We have travelled extensively (U.S. & abroad), staying in people's homes or guest houses using AirBnB, and have received very positive reviews (recommendations available, if needed).

About
I am working on a biography of American author Catharine Maria Sedgwick (1789-1867), who was born in Massachusetts, lived much of her life in New York City, and travelled in the U.S. and abroad. I have followed Sedgwick's footsteps through the U.S., England, France, and Italy, and look forward to exploring Germany and Switzerland in the near future (also part of her 1839-40 trip & travel book). I founded the CMS Society in 1997 and helped to organize multiple conferences in the U.S. as well as the UK, Italy, and Ireland, largely due to my desire to spread the word about Sedgwick! I prefer staying in local homes while travelling, and exploring new places on foot. And I love trying new cuisines!
