Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Director, Center for the Study of International Migration at UCLA, I am the author of nine books and over 100 scholarly articles and book chapters. A member of the UCLA faculty since 1990, I have served as Chair of my department, Acting Associate Vice-Provost for International Studies, and Director of the Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies. For most of the past decade I have annually spent a month or two in Europe; in spring 2019, I was a visiting professor at the University of Nice and later at Aix-Marseille University; in 2018, I was a visiting scholar at the Institut National d'Etudes Demographiques in Paris. I will take sabbatical during calendar year 2020-21, during which time I will be affiliated with the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement at Sciences Po. I speak fluent French and quite decent Spanish. My wife and I (as well as our dog) will be the only occupants of the apartment.
