About
Judy Bauerlein is the Chair of Theatre at California State University San Marcos, where she teaches courses in theatre literature, theory and practice. She is deeply invested in community-based theatre practice and believes that it is one of the best ways to build community, represent diversity and deconstruct social systems that divide communities. Judy has worked extensively as a performer and director in both regional and New York theaters including San Diego Rep, Cornerstone, The Kitchen NYC, La Jolla Playhouse, Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Wilma Theatre, Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, Joseph Papp Public Theatre, and Bread and Puppet Theatre. She lives with her 12-year-old son, Max and their pug, Hugo. Max is a breaker/hip hop dancer and gymnast. He loves science. Judy grew up in Ambler, Pennsylvania and has lived in London, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego. Judy, Max and Hugo currently live in La Jolla where they are blessed with the opportunity to surf every day!
