Quiet, Bright, and Spacious Penthouse in the heart of Granada

Newly restored (summer 2019), bright, large penthouse apartment (5th floor; 133 / 1500 ft2) in La Carrera de la Virgen, at the very heart of Granada. Ideal for a family. From this central location, with a balcony and windows overlooking a beautiful promenade, you can walk anywhere in the city, quickly access local shopping and amenities, including the metro and the main city bus hub. The apartment has a balcony with seating area, from which you can see the Sierra Nevada mountains in the distance, and watch the street life unfold below. The apartment consists of three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a dining room/living room, a fully-stocked kitchen and laundry room, a large walk-in closet. The apartment has marble and wood flooring, central heating in all rooms, and air conditioning in the living room/dining room, as well as in one of the bedrooms.

The east-facing master bedroom has gorgeous natural light in the morning, and direct access to the balcony. This room has a brand new Queen-size bed, a built-in closet and an en-suite full bathroom.

The large (23 m2) and bright living room/dining room opens to the balcony, and is decorated with high quality, solid wood classic furniture. (Note that all pictures in this listing were taken with only natural light.)

The other rooms face west and have direct sunlight in the afternoon. One of the remaining 2 bedrooms has a single bed, a large desk, a built-in closet, and an A/C system. The other bedroom has a twin bed (105 x 190 cm), a large desk, and a closet. The second full bathroom includes a shower.

The kitchen was fully renovated in July, 2019, and is well equipped with new cooking utensils and high quality appliances, including toaster, microwave oven with grill, oven, kettle, hand blender, refrigerator, dishwasher, and induction stove. The hot water tank and washing/dryer machine are also new, as are other supplied items, including hair dryer, vacuum, iron and ironing board. We provide towels and linen.

The apartment is served by elevator access. There are several public parking lots in the vicinity (within a few hundred meters), with options for monthly rentals.

We are originally from Granada, and have a large family still living there. We can provide advice on important practicalities, such as schools and after school activities, places to shop, eat, visit, etc...

The apartment is located in the very center of Granada, in the emblematic Carrera de la Virgen, a mainly pedestrian street meant for strolling under the shade of centennial trees. This street joins el Paseo del Salon with Puerta Real, and transverses La Fuente de las Batallas. The penthouse is located in a small apartment building, between El Cortes Ingles (the only department store in Spain) and El Cine Madrigal (the last standing historic cinema in Granada).

Given its prime location, you can quickly walk anywhere in the city center, including; the Palacio de Congresos (10 minutes), the Cathedral and Capilla Real (8 minutes), Plaza Nueva and Carrera del Darro (lower part of the Albaicín neighborhood, 10 minutes), the Alhambra via Cuesta Gomérez (15 minutes), and many other places.

This area is excellent for leisure strolls, for entertainment (theaters, museums, exhibition halls and auditorium), and for outstanding dining and tapas in numerous local bars and restaurants.

The apartment is also only 33 km away from the Sierra Nevada ski resort (30 minutes car ride) and 70 km away from the beach (45 minutes car ride).

I was born in Granada, Spain. I left Spain when I was 18 years old to pursue a career in oceanography in North America. I am now a professor of oceanography at the University of British Columbia (UBC), in Vancouver, Canada. I am married to Canadian, also a professor at UBC. We have a teenage son. We enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, skiing, canoeing, and mountain biking. We also love reading, cooking, and wine. We love having people over for dinner and socializing. My husband plays the flamenco guitar. We go to Spain every summer to be with the family.

This is a lovely, newly modernized, comfortable, and bright flat in a brilliant location in the heart of the city. Food shops, cafés, the mountains and all the historic sites are nearby. The hosts were extremely helpful in getting me settled in and were more than understanding when I had to depart quickly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This apartment is extremely comfortable! The location on Carrerra de la Virgen is one of the most convenient in Granada. Transportation, shopping and green space are all at your doorstep. Being on the top floor ensures that it is quiet. The apartment set up is very practical for a family and the recent updates make it bright and cheerful. Maite and Esteban were very welcoming and helpful and as a result, my stay in Granada was perfect. This apartment is highly recommended - don't miss it. I would have no hesitation to stay here again.
