A comfortable historic home in Balmain overlooking the harbour and close to the city

Our home is a lovely heritage Georgian sandstone house overlooking Sydney Harbour and Mort Bay in Balmain. It's quiet, comfortable and distinctive, with strong maritime connections. There are outdoor tables for an evening drink and dining on the street and rear sides of our house, both overlooking the harbour.
Built in the 1850's, it is an artist's and engineer's home with music, books and artworks. The kitchen is contemporary and the living room is easy to relax in. There are 2 spacious bedrooms with queen size beds and quality linen. The separate office overlooks the harbour and has a wireless printer. High speed internet and free local and national phone calls are included.
The garden is tropical with frangipanis, bromeliads, birds nest ferns and kitchen herbs - it's almost self-caring, though in summer it will need occasional watering.
The ferries from Balmain Wharf or East Balmain Wharf are frequent and run 7 days/week and provide a very practical way to access Circular Quay and the city - Circular Quay is an excellent transport hub to other urban and rural destinations.
Balmain and Rozelle have excellent cafes and restaurants in abundance. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the local shops and supermarkets. There is a big supermarket open from 7.30 am to 10pm every day. There are also very good weekend markets nearby - an organic farmers market in Orange Grove Markets every Saturday morning and an excellent second hand market at Rozelle Primary School every Saturday and Sunday.
In brief, it is a distinctive well kept historic house within a vibrant community with a strong connection to inner Sydney's maritime heritage. We love it and we know that the guests who have lived at our house have not been disappointed. Please ask us whatever you need to know to make your stay terrific.
As a way of leaving our house without you having any last minute cleaning demands, we have a one-off departure cleaning fee of $140 AUD.

'"I am happy to refer Sue Hanckel and her beautiful property in East Balmain. Sue is charming, considerate and has thought of everything possible to ensure her visitors a comfortable and agreeable visit in Sydney. Sue's property is well positioned, quiet, yet easily accessible to a vibrant, strip of cafe's, restaurants and boutique retailers. Public transport via ferry or bus is close by and bicycle hire a convenient option. This is a pocket of Sydney you will enjoy immensely!" '

Fantastic! The house is beautiful and was a joy to stay in (unusually for Sydney, it even has proper heating), and it really does have a harbour view -- the covered verandah is the perfect place to work or to sit with an evening glass of wine. The location is great -- a single, short-ish (except in rush hour -- avoid!) bus ride to Sydney Uni or CBD; close to shops, cafes, etc.; and really close to the ferry. Sue was very relaxed, considerate and hospitable -- she really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our time there (which we did!). Absolutely top of my list if I ever get to have another sabbatical in Sydney. Excellent Helen 1/10/2016 8:16:00 AM
