Our home is a very comfortable Georgian sandstone house near the waterfront in Balmain. It's welcoming with lots of space both inside and out. On the long front verandah, it is great to sit and overlook the garden, on the rear verandah there is a broad view of Mort Bay and Sydney Harbour. Built in the 1850's by a mariner William Sawyer, it is now an artist's and engineer's home with music, books and artworks. The kitchen is contemporary and the living room is easy to relax in. There are 2 spacious bedrooms with queen size beds and quality linen. The separate office overlooks the harbour and has a wireless printer. High speed internet and free local and national phone calls are included. The garden is tropical with frangipanis, bromeliads, birds nest ferns and kitchen herbs - it's almost self-caring, though occasional watering is always helpful. There is no off-street parking, but there is always street parking nearby. The ferries from Balmain Wharf or Balmain East Wharf are frequent and run 7 days/week and provide a very practical way to access Circular Quay and the city - Circular Quay is an excellent transport hub to other urban and rural destinations. You will need to buy an OPAL card to pay for your ferry, bus or train travel. TRIPVIEW is the NSW transport app which gives real-time departures. Balmain and Rozelle have excellent cafes and restaurants in abundance. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the local shops and supermarkets. Woolworths is open from 7.30 am to 10pm every day. There are also very good weekend markets nearby - an organic farmers market in Orange Grove Markets every Saturday morning. The wonderful second hand market at Rozelle Primary School is open every Saturday. In brief, it is a distinctive well kept historic house within a vibrant community with a strong connection to inner Sydney's maritime heritage. We love it and we know that the guests who have lived here have not been disappointed. Please ask us whatever you need to know to make your stay work for you.
