3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Country Home, comfortable and luxurious

"La France Profonde". Unequaled quality of life in this region: no stress, no pollution, safe, calm and very traditional with family and old-fashioned courtesy as priorities; people here are warm and welcoming. A village in the countryside is a good place to recover and rediscover; you are far from the noise, pollution, traffic, and crime of more populated areas.

The home is situated at the edge of a small country village in southwestern France, 50 minutes below the Loire river towns of Angers and Saumur; St Clementin dates from the second century, having been on a Roman crossroad.

This 3 bedroom home is completely equipped with high quality furnishings purchased for the comfort of the occupant. American owners live on adjoining property, this is the guest house, so we are available to help you enjoy your stay. If you are a gardener the property has a 6000 square foot garden plus tools.

NEW! Second bathroom, making the master an ensuite with connecting door.

Ideal for those on sabbatical as it is comfortable, in a village of 500 with bakery and restaurant yet with quick access to all services for normal life within 15 minutes (healthcare, banks, food, train station) and the endless enjoyable activities found only in France. Find inspiration in the most romantic and interesting country in the world.

Our website, link below, has photos of some of the infinite number of interesting excursions available: from Loire Valley chateaux to Atlantic beaches to Paris, all can be a day trip, returning home to the comfort of La Chouette and the peace of a small country village.

The region is hedgerowed like the Lake District of England, characterized by small farms, crisscrossed by rivers and liberally sprinkled with chateaux. The lack of crowds of tourists makes for easy driving, affordable restaurants and an authenticity to French life not available in regions that survive on tourism. When the GPS says you will arrive at a certain time, you will.

A real advantage of this quiet, non-touristy area: incredible value for money in superb restaurants.

There are tennis courts and soccer field in the village, hiking and biking paths, equestrian center close by, lake, large water parks, fishing on the rivers, open air and covered markets.

We are the owners of a music conservatory in California, moved to France in 2008, and would favor those from the academic community.

Rented La Chouette for 2 months in the summer 2015. I took 2 months off fr. my very busy life in California. The house is very spacious for our extended family and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is fully stocked and we enjoyed cooking fresh seafood and produce from the area. The area is very peaceful and great for long walks and for relaxation although there are lots to see and do within short driving distance if you are so inclined. There are great restaurants nearby that are so reasonably priced. Roger and Brenda were wonderful hosts, took us to farmer's market, gave us tips on what to do and see and even called for reservations for us. We liked the area so much we decided to buy a property in the area. Roger even helped me open a bank acct and went with me to look at properties. I look forward to moving in to our second home and seeing Brenda and Roger again whom I now consider as good friends

After a full schedule working in Paris for several months, my college graduate daughter and I stayed at La Chouette for a month in mid-summer 2014. Without exaggeration, everything occurred as stated and pictured on the website, and then some. We gained a wonderful appreciation of the good life in Deux Sèvres. Both the surrounding area and the guest house offered unique opportunities to experience the history, culture and people in the area through the perspectives of our hosts and those we met along the way. Highlights of our stay included market day, relaxing at the Coeur d'O aquatic center in Bressuire, chateaux near Saumur and Angers, the Oriental Gardens, and especially, the Puy du Fou historical theme park. We loved cooking fresh market produce in the kitchen. At the beautifully decorated and very clean guest house, we recharged comfortably, as if at home, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Roger and Brenda. If the occasion should arise, I would return to La Chouette and Deux Sèvres! Excellent Lea Rice 10/31/2014 11:19:00 AM
We fell in love with St. Clementin and La Chouette during our month-long sabbatical. Roger and Brenda were the ideal hosts, providing us with just the right amount of suggested activities and quiet solitude. Roger was gracious enough during the first week to introduce us to the Tuesday market in Brassuire. Then, Roger and Brenda continued their hospitality by taking us to the Friday market in Nueil-les-Aubiers.

Brenda’s tasteful decorations and furnishings welcomed us for just what we needed – time to relax, time to read, time to create wonderful cuisine from our fresh market food.

The main solon was spacious and bright. From the petite solon, we could see the church steeple while we enjoyed our morning croissant from the boulangerie. We enjoyed taking daily strolls on country roads passing retired moulins. Our rented Fiat was ideal for afternoon drives throughout Deux Sevres, exploring old bridges and discovering quaint hamlets. Every day brought new discoveries.

For a couple or a family seeking quite solitude in a region of France that is known for fantastic butter, milk, and cheese, La Chouette in St. Clementin is perfect.
