Description

Are you an academic, retiree, or employed person looking for a home in Kingston for a significant portion of the December 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 period? My home is quiet, sunny, and antique- and art-filled, with high-speed internet, suitable for working from home. It includes a back-of-the-house book-lined study with ample work space and open shelves for your own books and art work, with a great view of a mature, well-established garden, including a 300-year-old Oak tree. My home is fully furnished - including china and linens - and is available while I am away from Kingston for the winter. Parking for one vehicle (snow removal is included). On a bus route and a five-minute walk to Lake Ontario Park. Close to the west-end campus of Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, and Providence Care Hospital. The neighbourhood is a safe one, quiet with tree-lined streets and a variety of homes inhabited by retirees, academics, professionals, and working people of all ages. I’ve lived here for over 25 years and have created an inviting home in a beautiful, could-easily-be-out-in-the-country setting. As you can see from the photo, the living room is bright and cheerful during the day with huge windows letting in a lot of light. In the evenings, the living room is cosy—and has a working fireplace—with ample room to spread out to enjoy the warmth. In the dining room, the sideboard holds most anything you would need to host a dinner party. There are numerous leaves to extend the dining table as well as an additional four chairs in storage in the laundry/furnace room downstairs. The kitchen, newly painted, is also a great place to work with a large island in the alcove to spread out your papers, work on documents, or prepare a meal with a friend perched on a stool for company. The bathroom was recently renovated and has ample storage for towels and other linens (supplied) as well as all your lotions, potions, and supplies. The primary bedroom has four sets of sheets, several blankets, a duvet, loads of extra pillows, and room-darkening drapes to make the room both private and excellent for sleeping. The closet is double hung and empty for your use. The media room is part study/part TV room, with a large wall-mounted TV over the desk. I always make sure there are several empty shelves for your books and papers and the closet will be empty save for an ironing board and iron. My own papers, music collection, and clothing are stored in the locked third bedroom, for which a neighbour has a key in the case of a dire emergency. As I travel overseas in the winter months, I should have no need to access my own belongings, however, should that occasion arise I would give 24 hours notice and agree to a time suitable to both parties. A property manager is only a phone call (or text) away although your stay should be worry-free as all aspects of my home have been updated. No pets, children, or smoking. A retired academic, since 2011 I have hosted numerous academics, and a few non-academics, in my home (including 13 individuals through Sabbatical Homes) typically for three or four months at a time. It's been a satisfying experience for all of us.
