Description

Welcome to Harlem! We are seeking to rent out a furnished 1-bedroom apartment in our townhouse for short terms — from one month to a year at a time. The apartment is a VERY large 1BR/1BA apartment, on the garden level of our home, which means it has its own private entrance under the stoop. It has central air conditioning and heat, and was recently renovated (2022), with beautiful new lighting and newly finished floors, a refurbished bathroom, and (other than the refrigerator, which was replaced a few years earlier) all new appliances, including a gas range, a full-sized dishwasher, and a small washer/dryer within the unit. The kitchen has new counters and tons of cabinet space, and is fully equipped with pots, pans, cooking implements, etc. The bedroom and living/dining room are each enormous and there’s ample closet space, including two walk-in closets. Our location is extremely convenient and the neighborhood is endlessly interesting. We are half a block from a CitiBike station and a short block and a half from a local subway stop (116th St B/C), with four different express subways within a 10-minute radius (116th St 2/3 and 125th St A/D). Within a block we have a drug store, great pizza and Levain cookies, and a four or five-minute walk gets you to Morningside Park, the Harry Belafonte branch of the New York Public Library (a McKim, Mead and White building), a Lidl grocery store, and multiple venues with live music. There are numerous nearby restaurants, bars, cafés, and coffee shops, including Melba’s and Amy Ruth's (soul food), Sottocasa and Lido (Italian), Vinateria and Enoteca (restaurant-wine bars), Double Dutch and Monkey Cup (cafes), Mess Hall and 67 Orange (bars), Vegan Hood, Indian Summer (Indian), Lalibela (Ethipoian), La Savane (African), Pikine and Le Baobab (Senegalese), Bo’s bagels, and Harlem Tavern (with a huge outdoor dining area), to name just a few. Walk less than ten minutes north to get to 125th Street, where you’ll find the Apollo Theater as well as various other amenities, including the AMC Magic Johnson movie theater, various gyms (New York Sports Club, Blink, Planet Fitness, and Movement bouldering), and lots of shopping. Walk less than ten minutes south to get to Central Park, which is, well, Central Park. Less than ten minutes by local subway will get you to the Museum of Natural History, and if you take an express train, a similar-length ride will get you to the theater district. The apartment is really enormous for a Manhattan 1BR, and very well equipped. The bedroom has a lovely queen-size bedroom set, and one of the living room couches converts to an additional bed. It would be a very comfortable spot to spend a semester or two in New York. We are walking distance from a number of colleges, including Columbia/Barnard, Union Theological Seminary, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Manhattan School of Music, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, and (for an intrepid walker) City College; numerous other schools are easily accessible by subway or bus.

Comments: The space is a furnished apartment, within our townhouse, that we don’t permanently occupy, but want to be able to use occasionally. So we seek tenants whose time in New York City is finite, but there’s no particular outside date for us.
