Enjoy morning coffee on the huge deck high up in the trees, then walk down for a dip in the Potomac. Hiking trails, riding stables (the Whitings Neck Equestrian Center) and the C&O canal tow path are nearby for four seasons of fun. And the delicious restaurants and cute shops of adorable historic Shepherdstown is just minutes away! Shepherd University is a short drive away with its lovely campus, fantastic theatre festival and comfortable library. The house is located in the midst of some of the most important civil war sites and is just over an hour to Washington DC. The house is on a special section of the Potomac called the Big Slackwater, a stretch of extra-deep river (because of a downstream dam) that allows boaters to pull water skiiers or just cruise around the gorgeous waters. And there are hidden caves in the area -- a local guide can show you the secrets. This four bedroom, five bath home features a huge deck, great for a cookout dinner after a day on the river. There's a fully-outfitted kitchen, formal dining room and casual eating area. A cozy living room features a huge, double-sided fireplace to warm up in winter after a hike in the snow or cross country skiing. A walkout basement with air hockey, ping-pong, darts, a cozy sectional, a game table and a wood stove. A closet is stocked with games and puzzles and we have lots of movies (yes, DVDs!) The big yard is great for croquet, badminton or other lawn games. Harpers Ferry is close by for history buffs and adventure lovers. You can tour the historic town, hike the trails of the national park or go whitewater tubing and rafting on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. This property is available for 30-day minimum rental.
