Ocean front condo with semi-private beach cove and beautiful sunsets

Description

This condo is in Makaha, just west of the city of Waianae and west of Honolulu. The condo is on the ocean with breathtaking views – truly! From the back window, you look down on a semi-private beach cove (in Hawaii, any beaches are open to public even in front of a private property). The waves are impressive in the winter. December – May, you can see whale spouts and splashing tails out the back window and sliding door. Monk seals come sleep on the beach sometimes. You can see sea turtles and beautiful fish everywhere. You may even find Opihi on the rocks. A few miles inland in the Wai’anae mountain range is Mount Ka’ala, the highest peak on Oahu. The hike to the top is incredible – very steep. Rainbows are regularly seen over the mountains. Reference to Mount Ka’ala and West Makaha are featured in Israel Kamakawiwo’oke’s (IZ) song “Take me Home Country Road.” Wai’anae was his home. There is a statue of him just down the road from the condo towards town. The condo is modern and minimal. It is small but efficient with everything you need in one of the most beautiful places on earth. No pets allowed. This is our home away from home. It was totally renovated in 2022. The condo complex has two saline pools for swimming and sunning. They are very clean and well maintained. The property has 24-7 security and premises are walked routinely throughout the day and night. We have snorkeling gear for two, 1 boogie board, 2 beach chairs, 1 beach umbrella, and a 1 pop-up beach tent for you to use. Beach gear is stored in a locked shed at front of our assigned parking space that is in a covered parking garage. The condo is 30-miles from Honolulu Airport and 15 miles from the Disney Resort in Ko Olina and 20 minutes from a major shopping area in Oahu’s 2nd largest city, Kapolei. There, you will find Cosco, Target, Home Depot, and more. On Oahu, it’s not the distance but the traffic. Always check traffic when planning your drive. According to a passage in the book “Fierce Heart,” by Stuart Holmes Coleman, Waianae/Makaha is the most Hawaiian place in Hawaii. It is local! Each February, the Buffalo Big Board Surf Classic is held down the road at Makaha beach. It is a local favorite attended by some of Hawaii’s most famous waterman, like Brian Keaulana. Nearby, you can visit the local farmers market, craft fairs, and local pick-your-own farms such as Aina’ O Makaha. Driving west of the condo 7.6 miles where the road end, you can start the 2-mile hike to Ka’ena Point Bird sanctuary where you are likely to see Laysan Albatross and Monk seals. One last mention, Pokai Beach, 1.5 miles from the condo in Wai’anae, is a great place to spend the day beachside with the local community. There you will find the 604 club with food, drink, live music, and beautiful sunsets. You'll greated with spiners, which are smaller dolphins that love showing off their spinning skills. It is at Pokai you will be able to see (and maybe participate in) traditional six-person canoe paddling by the local canoe clubs – Ka Mo’i Canoe Club and Makaha Canoe Club.
