Yvoire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
The Pink House is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home in the heart of Yvoire, a lovely medieval village perched on the south shore of the Lake of Geneva (Lac Leman) -- an intact walled and gated village, complete with castle, dating back to the early 1300's. The entire village is a national historic landmark and is recognized as one of France's most beautiful villages, earning frequent awards for its abundant flowers and lovely gardens. There is public transport to Geneva and many people in the area commute there daily. At the same time, Yvoire is in close proximity to many wonderful destinations in both France and Switzerland: Annecy, Evian, Aix-les-Bains, Gstaad, Bern, Neuchatel, Interlaken etc. If you are a skiier, there are fine ski resorts like Chamonix, Megéve and La Clusaz little more than an hour away. Nestled in the alps, this area is also a hiker's paradise, with endless opportunities to explore new trails. It is even easy to take a day trip into Italy or over the Great St. Bernard Pass. Our parents bought this home in 1949 while working for the U.N. and it has stayed in the family ever since. The house is comfortable and distinctive, with interesting art and a strong sense of history. There is a big, farm-style French kitchen, a wood-burning fireplace in the living room and 4 comfortable bedrooms, 2 of them with beautiful lake views.
