Bodrum, Mugla, Turkey
So this was the original title strip -before the inane and intellectually pedestrian re-ordering of our communication in this silly new website: "Large spacious house in hilltop village w local charm-views of Eastern Aegean; favourite w fellow international writers artists et al" Our ' mountain house' is located in Geris (gerish) Village, well known locally for its diverse mix of residents- amongst the traditional locals are many national and international artists, scholars, writers, musicians etc..Sometimes referred to as the little Tibet of Bodrum, it overlooks from above (and is part of) the beautiful cosmopolitan, fishing town of Yalikavak (10 mins by local transport/ car). Yalikavak. and indeed the whole area has a contemporary and cultural edge probably mainly due to its many artists, writers, and urbane intellectuals who have long term summer homes and some permanent residences here. We are also 20 mins by car (30mins by dolmush/bus) to the well known small town of Gumusluk along the coast. Gumusluk is a much longer term haunt of artists and scholars who made this former fishing village well known for its exquisite fish restaurants, bars , boutiques and variety of summer sea sports activities. The house is in a great location within the village: just 3mins walk to the main village square, with its two shops and tea house, as well as the main bus stop,. The local bus service runs regularly from the village square to Yalikavak and connections to Gumusluk and all other parts of the peninsula.. The village boasts of the famous Panorama Pasanda Restaurant (10mins walk) with delicious menu and views over Yalikavak bay- see link below. This summer rental is ideal for those who want a quiet, rural feel , yet with a short hop to Yalikavak with its wonderful restaurants, cafes, swimming , weekly markets of a lively, cosmopolitan town (also banks, post office, health services etc) - even with its one corner transformed as a 'Miami'esque internationally known megamarina (Palmarina)! The house is also available throughout the year, and becomes a wonderful, space to work, write, rest with wood stove and fireplace warmth, and plenty of space to hang out during the cooler months, also. There are three double bedrooms, a bathroom upstairs, a roof terrace as well as a wrap around terrace at main living area level. The large lounge area is open plan and the front is open aspect with views over the valley to the sea. 3bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. The large lounge also has an adjacent area that can be used as a study space. This large spacious, 3 storey house (lower ground flat separate flat not available) is well situated on its own cul de sac in the village centre. It has stunning views to the mountain range and the Eastern Agean sea from all windows, balconies and large vine covered terrace. There is a simple uncluttered lay out throughout, with a fire place and mostly wood floor, staircase on the upper floors. There is bedding, all. kitchen utensils, fridge freezer, washing machine, TV and solar water heating- just ask and we probably have it our can provide it!. There is a stone barbecue oven in the garden with walnut, plum, pine nut, olive, almond, apple and several other non fruit trees.
