This historic farmhouse with its 35 acres of land serves as our beloved retreat for writing and scholarly pursuits. Here, you can enjoy the tranquility of a historic homestead surrounded by abundant nature and close to many hiking destinations, waterfalls, Lake Champlain, x-country skiing and scenic towns like Vergennes, Shelburne and Charlotte — as well as Middlebury, merely 5 miles away, and Burlington. The farmhouse was built around 1795 and preserves much of its original character, with two great open fireplaces (in the kitchen and sitting room), period furnishings and unobstructed views of open meadows and the centuries-old oak tree. A bright and airy living room gives on to a study perfect for working privately and for videoconferencing. There is a fiber-optic internet connection and excellent WiFi. The kitchen is equipped with a professional-grade gas range and cooking essentials. The setting is tranquil, beautiful in all seasons and all times of day. Wildlife can often be spotted on the grounds, from a variety of birds at the feeder to deer, foxes and a spectacular colony of hawks. Two colorful hammocks swing from trees just outside the house. The house is accessible from a rural dirt road. Parking is plentiful. Two floors are available for guest use. These encompass living room, kitchen, sitting room, study, three bedrooms on the second floor, one of which has its own attached bathroom with a shower. The other two bedrooms share a large bathroom with a tub.
