Rome, Lazio, Italy
Our lovely apartment is located on the Gianicolo Hill within the ancient city walls, above the medieval neighborhood of Trastevere. The property is a rare oasis in the heart of Rome, with an independent entrance to its own private 100 square-meter sunny patio and vine-covered garden. It features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living and dining room area, and a well-equipped kitchen. Recently renovated and refurbished, the rooms are bright and clean, and all look out onto the garden greenery. It has self-contained heating, dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer, 32" LED and 3D TV, DVD player, 24/7 ADSL and WiFi. Every room has fully screened windows and air-conditioning. Both bedrooms have queen-size beds with memory-foam mattresses. Cleaning services are available. Located in a tranquil neighborhood, the apartment is just a short stroll to shops and to Trastevere, the cultural "left bank" of Rome, and minutes from the Tiber River and the city's historical center. This is one of the very best areas in which to enjoy really living in Rome, while also providing seclusion and an ideal space for research and writing. Two beautiful parks are very close: Villa Sciarra is right up the street, and Villa Pamphili, with its spectacular views across old Rome, is on the other side of the Gianicolo Hill a few minutes' walk away. The apartment is also a short walk to any one of the universities and cultural research centers clustered on the Gianicolo Hill, including the American Academy, American University of Rome, Swedish Institute, and John Cabot University. Public transport -- with bus stops at the street corner -- is frequent and makes it easy to reach other academic sites such as Notre Dame, LUISS, La Sapienza, Loyola, FAO, etc. Visiting professors and sabbatical families from several American and European universities have enjoyed the apartment every year over the last decade. Without exception, all have been extremely satisfied with the location, public transport connections, and the apartment itself. My family has been an Inner Circle member of SabbaticalHomes.com since 2005.
