Description of the house and its environment: The House on the Hill’ is named 'Casetta' and is uniquely located on the top of the hill with the old 'borgo' Lucardo (Montespertoli). The restoration of this former Tuscan hay barn into a house was completed in 2013 with heavy chestnut rafters and red tiles on the ceiling. But also with artistic details like a steel cutwork stair handrail and gold and red mosaic in the bathrooms. The showers are very comfortable, the bedrooms are tastefully designed: one with a double bed and one with two single beds which can be transformed in a double. In front of the house there is an enormous oak that stands there already for 400 years. The view that goes 300° around is breath taken. The temperature inside the house is agreeable in summertime, because the hill is the highest one in this area (420 m. If necessary you can switch on big fans on the ceiling, which are in every room, including living and kitchen. And of course you can swim in my swimming pool to cool down ;) The pool is beneath the terrace in front of the 34 olive trees on my ground. There is free WIFI available for guests and also a private parking. Guests who rent the whole house can sit downstairs in the sitting-room or sit outside on the terrace at the rear to see the sunrise or else sit on the terrace in the front to see the sunset over the hills; in both cases the view is always marvelous. There is a possibility for (classical) musicians to prepare concerts thanks to the magnificently restored PLEYEL grand PIANO. There is nearly no traffic on the roads and the paths in the neighborhood, so it is a lovely place for a walk or to go by bike through the vineyards and the olive orchards, even for hours if you want. It is the ideal place for cyclists, walkers. Lovers of art will find Florence and Siena nearby and plenty of medieval little towns with museums to visit. There is a good little restaurant in the lower part of Lucardo and in front of it, a pizzeria/restaurant with a big terrace with a splendid view. It is only a 5-10 minutes walk away. There are many others at a short distance by car. At 1,5 km there is a little village, Fiano, with small alimentary shops, pharmacy, another local pizzeria etc. On top of the hill there is the medieval 'borgo' of Lucardo. The hill was already in ancient times used by the Etruscans. Later from the 8th century on the castle was built, besieged, destroyed and rebuilt. The current walls are late medieval and completely kept. The borough currently will be restored. Next to the borough there is a little church with a majolica baptismal font. You can find Lucardo between Florence and Siena, in the midst of Tuscany. Florence, Firenze in Italian, is known for artists like Brunelleschi and Michelangelo in the times it was reigned by the Medici; it is only 32 km away. Much smaller, but also very famous is San Gimignano with its 13 towers and 24 km away. Even more nearby at 10 km is Certaldo where the medieval poet Boccaccio has been born and also died. It is situated high on a hill, has a magnificent town hall and a ditto museum. Nearby you will find Tavarnelle with its shops, a large COOP and its lovely small restaurants. In Fiano, at one and a half chilometer from Lucardo there are the essential things, such as a postoffice and a pharmacy. Then there is Volterra at 48 km, also founded by Etruscans and still breaths the middle Ages. You cannot leave Tuscany without visiting Pisa at 80 km and certainly not only for its tower. But there is not only culture in Tuscany: the house on the hill is surrounded by beautiful castles and wine-factories. You can visit them having a wine tasting.
