We are a retired professional couple: Ken, who has dual British/Canadian citizenship and Bonnie, Canadian but an avowed anglophile who wishes to experience living in England rather than merely going there on holiday. We live in a century home (1850) built and operated as a small hotel, and subsequently repurposed as two semis. It has now been sympathetically changed to a single family residence, sufficiently significant as to have been included in the 2022 House Tour organized by the local chapter of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. Port Hope is a prosperous, vibrant community of about 17,000 located on Lake Ontario, which tends to moderate temperatures in both summer and winter. About half the population are retirees from Toronto, many of whom were involved in the artistic world. We are very centrally located in the town, with a walk score of 90. Within a 10 minutes walk radius there restaurants (5), a supermarket, banks(3), theatre, library, farmers' market, railway station, beer store, liquor store, antique stores(4) and most other requirements. For those desiring larger city amenities we are some 100 km east of Toronto, accessible by road (6+ lane Trans Canada Highway 5 minutes away, and rail, 9 minute walk to the station). The proximity of the station may initially be disconcerting for some, as there are somewhat noisy train viaducts nearby, although this soon becomes white noise for most people. Port Hope is well known for its salmon and trout runs on the Ganaraska river (3 minute walk) and fishing. For bird enthusiasts there is an active local group, and we are near to Presqu'ile, a major bird migration route. The renovations to our house include a bespoke all electric eat-in kitchen with Bosch appliances including a 36 inch induction cook top with pop-up extractor, and a 42 inch double door Sub Zero refrigerator-freezer, a south facing 3 season sun room, a walk-out deck with a 5 burner mains gas barbeque. The ground floor further comprises a marble tiled entry hall, sitting room, dining room, a den and a powder room. with a total floor area of 1200 sq.ft. On the first floor the master bedroom and a 5 piece en-suite occupies one side of the house, and includes a 15 ft. two door walk in closet. on the other side there is a 4 piece en-suite guest bedroom, an office, a sitting area and a washer and dryer. A third bedroom with a 3 piece en-suite is located on the second floor. Our house is furnished with many antiques, and we would prefer to exchange with someone who has a similar appreciation of such furniture.
