This is a perfect location to commune with nature, to write, to recharge. Our lovely 19th-century farmhouse has the charm and serenity of its era, with light-filled airy rooms and updated bathrooms and kitchen. Our 3 ½ acre plot is divided into flower gardens and fields surrounding the house, giving lots of open space and sunshine, while woodland and shrubs behind the barn ensure that we are surrounded by gentle birdsong all day long, mixed with the sound of Atlantic waves in the distance. We are located outside Liverpool, Nova Scotia, a five minute stroll from the Atlantic Ocean, and from our local lighthouse. The weather is ever-changing, and always breathtaking. The sunlight is is one of the greatest features of this place, and the endless windows let you enjoy it year round. Our closest neighbour is friendly, and plows the driveway in winter. You’ll find that everyone in this part of the Maritimes is relaxed, happy to stop and chat, and answer any questions you might have. We’re looking for someone who would like to move in for either 12 or 24 months during our stay in Vancouver for graduate studies at UBC. A couple or family would be welcome. Pets would also be accepted, subject to discussion. We have porcupines and raccoons here, so care would need to be taken, We also have a healthy and growing population of local and migratory birds visiting every year, and we would ask that you keep the feeders filled, since they’ve come to depend on us. There is a family of snowshoe hares living under our deck, and that would be another consideration if you have pets. There are all manner of attractions and services within about a 90 minute drive, ranging from the music, cafes, and bookstores in Lunenburg, to the more urban things like Ikea and Home Depot in Halifax. For anything else, our local Amazon delivery driver is just great. In Liverpool itself there is a hospital with emergency room, a family clinic, and two supermarkets. Our local mechanic is happy to collect the car from the house, and drop it back when it’s been serviced. The most wonderful thing about this house is the location. We can see the Atlantic from every side of the house, and the local greenery and the landscape changes from day to day. You are surrounded by sandy beaches or rocky shorelines only a short drive away, surrounded by the beautiful shoreline of Nova Scotia’s South Shore. You’ll feel intimately connected to the nature and the local environment in a way that isn’t possible in the city. The house has great flower gardens, which you’re very welcome to maintain, and two big vegetable patches that you can plant as you wish. The South Shore has its own temperate micro-climate, and is less cold year round than the northern part of the province. We are further south than any other part of Canada, with the warmest annual average temperature. We have two big bedrooms and an office upstairs, plus a full bathroom with separate shower and clawfoot tub. Downstairs is a large kitchen and a dining area from which it’s possible to spend hours watching the birds, squirrels and chipmunks around the bird feeders. The living room is very large and bright, with more ocean and garden views. It is home to our Steinway B piano, which we may be able to leave in place if a classical musician makes this their home. The washer and dryer in the downstairs powder room are brand new, but we also have a long outdoor clothes line for fresh clean laundry and lower energy bills. The old Jenn-Air in the kitchen photos is being replaced in May with a new KitchenAid range with downdraft extractor fan. The road outside is quiet, since it leads only to the lighthouse. We have found inner peace here, and a connection with the weather and the ocean that has given us a new notion of our place in the universe. Truly a magical place!
