Expansive views and a glorious space to match

This is a wonderfully sunny home on the fourth floor of a c17th former warehouse that is now a listed building. What makes this apartment special is its extremely quiet location and its wide roof-top views. To the north-east there are exceptional views of the Westertoren - see picture - and the Koninklijk Palais (Royal Palace) while the low skyline to the south-east reveals the twin towers of Rijksmuseum. From the communal lobby area and short flight of stairs, access is gained by lift/elevator directly into the hall or by staircase to the front door. The contemporary design of the spacious interior enhances the original features of brickwork and magnificent beams and allows light to pour in from three directions.

The rooms provided ample space to work and to relax in comfort. The living room is equipped with HD digital TV; a sound system including CD player with USB jack and tuner and an "all-in-one" printer too. The galley kitchen gives on to the dining area and is fitted with an electric oven, gas hob, double sink, fridge and dishwasher. Tableware is located in the fitted storage units under the work surface and in additional cupboards. The bedroom, with three big west-facing windows, has a 'super king size' bed 200cm x 210cm (79x83inches); a tall chest of drawers, additional hanging space in floor-to-ceiling cupboards outside in the corridor and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom is equipped with a large bath, shower attachment, loo and a retro-style washbasin with shaver’s point and hair dryer. RENTAL - what’s included, what’s not included
Based on Euros 120.00 per night including tourist tax, the rent includes council tax, standing charges (digital TV, telephone, radio and fast broadband (speeds 40mbps/10mbps)), lift and service charges. Costs incurred against telephone land-line calls, cleaning, water, electricity and gas consumption, will be deducted from the returnable deposit of Euros 3,500.00. In the case of a couple wishing to rent, cleaning is arranged and charged weekly.

LOCATION
The apartment is at the heart of the city’s cultural centre. The Anne Frank House, the Amsterdams Historisch Museum, the Amsterdam City Archives (Stadsarchief) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) campus are all within easy walking distance as is the Museum District which includes the the Concertgebouw, the Van Gogh Museum, the new Stedelijk Museum, and the recently refurbished Rijksmuseum. Outside the Leidseplein film district, the EYE Film Institute (2012) on the harbour and Tuschinski (1921) next to the Munt, offer cinemas within spectacular architecture. There is a wide variety of excellent restaurants, two street markets and a farmers’ market in the neighbourhood too (see Links 3 and 4 below). For the enjoyment of the city's open spaces try the Vondel Park or further away the Sloterpark where, with the lake and dense woodland, it's about as rural as it gets.

TRAVEL
To walk, to bike or to jump on a tram, whatever your preference, Amsterdam is a delightful adventure. The main train station, Amsterdam Centraal, is a short walk away (15-20 mins). Trams and buses run on schedule and several useful lines e.g. 13, 14, 17 stop just round the corner see (Link 1) below for full information. The OV chipcard (a public transport smartcard) can be bought and topped up at newsagents, stations and some supermarket see (Link 2) below for further details on all transport provision. Bikes can be hired across the canal.

We spent two glorious months in this superb apartment: one of the happiest stays away from home we can remember. The apartment is quite simply superb: in an awesome old building with beautiful, sturdy oak beams, and now tastefully, imaginatively converted to be a delightful, light-filled space full of inspiring art and books. Despite the many appeals of central Amsterdam, you will want to spend time in the apartment, enjoy its quiet and calm atmosphere, while looking out over the rooftop cityscape. There is easy access by an elevator and a beautiful fully-equipped kitchen. There is one large living area, but with distinct dining space and study areas, a separate bedroom and plenty of storage. All you might immediately need is nearby: plenty of shops of all kinds, especially supermarkets; you are a short walk from the very center of the city; tram/bus stops closer still. The owner is extremely friendly, helpful, straightforward and easy to talk to. This is by far the best Sabbatical Homes apartment in which we have stayed. Not only is it a fine, comfortable, well-equipped place in a city renowned for its tolerance, diversity, beauty, functionality and history, but the vision and taste evident in it make it a very special place indeed. My husband and I spent nearly four months in this wonderful apartment, and we cannot recommend it more enthusiastically. Jane was an absolutely pleasure to work with before, during, and after our stay: professional, clear, explicit, and friendly at all times, and her bookkeeping is a wonder (especially for those of us less skilled in financial matters). The entire process could not have gone more smoothly. The spacious, airy apartment is located in a historic building with centuries-old wooden beams and large windows opening onto nearly all parts of the city. Even in the middle of winter, the natural light is perhaps the best I’ve ever experienced in years of Amsterdam living, and the view onto the Westertoren is straight out of a coffee-table book. The apartment building is quiet and calm, with helpful, kind neighbors, and, although you’re in the center of things, you never feel like you’re surrounded by the city’s teeming masses. You can walk to all amenities within a few minutes: foodshopping, postal services (at the Gebroeders Winter stationary store on Rozengracht), dry cleaning, cafes and restaurants, night pubs, multiple markets, green space. It is centrally located for mass transit, including the Connexxion airport express bus to Schiphol (Bus 197, start/end point at Elandsgracht bus station, less than a 10 minute walk from the apartment).
