Beautiful & Private 1-bedroom Flat in Art Deco Building with Garden

My stylish apartment is tucked away from the excitement of East London in this gated Art Deco building set around a private garden. The building is two minute walk to shops, cafes, buses & train station at Hackney Central, and 15 min walk to Dalston & Broadway Market.

My place has wooden floors, high ceilings and details from the original conversion. The full-length windows bring in lots of light and give a breezy feel to the apartment if you open the glass door while having coffee in the morning, or at dinner time during the summer months. The flat is quiet and I often write at my desk there throughout the day and into the evening with no disturbances.

In the main room there's a large desk (currently set up for standing but I can adjust it to seat height, and have an osteopathic chair). There's a long Danish sofa and a coffee table. The dining table seats 4 people. The bathroom has a full-sized bath and the entrance hall is equipped with space for coats etc.

This 1920s Art Deco building is one-of-a-kind in the East End. It is gated, so is very safe, plus it is quiet and away from the road. The building was recently redecorated and has a perfectly cultivated courtyard garden in the centre - a rare thing in London! It has gated parking inside the building in a large shared garage which is also perfect for locking bikes.

Hackney is London's most creative borough, full of many different types of people who all contribute to its live spirit. The areas around Broadway Market, Chatsworth Road and Dalston Junction are packed with little coffee houses, great restaurants, curated boutiques, vintage stores and art book shops. There are farmers markets and art galleries. You can walk along the canal, cycle around or jump on a bus down to Shoreditch.

My apartment is 5 minutes from Hackney Central transport hub. Many different bus routes go across the city from here, including into Soho, Oxford Circus, Mayfair and the West End etc. The Overground train from Hackney Central takes you towards Highbury & Islington, Camden and West London. In terms of transport, there isn't a better location in Hackney.

About Me
I'm an arts writer and journalist now working on a book about a 1980s radical craft collective. I contribute to publications such as the FT, Apollo, and The Times, and also work with artists and designers, and in trend forecasting for creative companies. I previously lived in Beirut for 18 months, working as the editor of an art magazine there. I've travelled throughout Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Otherwise I've been based in London for 10 years. Before that I did my undergraduate degree in English at Oxford. I grew up in Cambridge, where my father is a professor at the university.
