So what do we mean by "central London"? Well, you can hear the clock of Big Ben next to the Houses of Parliament striking the hours*. That means we are no more than 20 minutes away from most of the major universities and centres of culture by underground (the subway station is four minutes walk away). There is also a network of buses to most parts of the capital and you can walk to the West End. This means you are close to all the central university campuses, the major teaching hospitals and the galleries and museums for which London is famous.

Our house is modernised and comfortable, but retains period features that mark its 185-year history. Downstairs there is a large living room with hardwood floor that runs the length of the house. The sitting room has antique, traditional furnishings and pictures along with a big comfy sofa.

The back part of the sitting room has a working area with a large desk which will accommodate a computer, printer, books and papers. We provide an office chair. The sitting room is light and airy and has French doors onto the quiet back garden. Fast fibre-optic wi-fi and digital terrestrial TV are included.

The pretty kitchen has a large dining area and looks on to a small, fully-stocked walled garden, which is typical of inner London. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a dishwasher, washing machine, gas hob and electric fan oven.

Our bathroom is very large and modern, converted from a former double bedroom. It includes a walk-in shower and full-size bath tub, mirrors and shelves. Plenty of space to move around.

Both bedrooms are good sized doubles, one with a king size bed and the other with a double bed. Closet and drawer space is provided.

The rent includes electricity, gas, water and council tax. If you wish to hire a cleaner we can put you in touch with a reputable company. Strictly no pets.

Our area, Oval, has real character. It is a mix of old and new and includes food shops, takeaways, cafes and restaurants as well as a weekly farmers' market. Within ten minutes walk you can eat Indian, Eritrean, Italian, Portuguese and West Indian food. You can walk from our house to the Thames in ten minutes and visit the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey and Tate Britain or just take a look at the MI6 building, made famous in the James Bond films.

We stayed 2 months here and had a fantastic stay during an academic sabbatical. The house is charming and on a quiet street, but near the heart of London and convenient to the underground. Paul and Jane were a pleasure to deal with, with responsive, professional communication and a personal touch. They have many good ideas on what to do in the neighborhood and London more generally. We recommend this home highly. Excellent Gordon 2/9/2019 1:13:00 PM
Lovely charming house in the middle of London   We have visited London many times, but rarely have we felt so much at home as when we stayed in this house. The house is modernised with everything one might need for a comfortable stay, but full of historical charm and atmosphere. We are all writers so the house was pure inspiration. The house comes with two lovely and quiet bedrooms. The bathroom is beautiful. In the back of the house is a lovely Italian garden. The ever attentive hosts, Paul and Jane, gave us valuable information on where to find what in the area and elsewhere. This house and its family is simply a gem in the middle of a big city. In addition Paul and Jane were always present online or mobile in the case we had any questions. Not even at the most expensive hotel in London can you find the hosts have left you cookies and a good wish note. We recommend this house to anyone who wants a comfortable and central stay in London. You will not regret it. Excellent Maria 4/14/2018 8:06:00 AM
This charming, comfortable house is very well located. Although quite central it is quiet. We slept really well in the backbedroom looking out over gardens, but the street side is quiet too. We were able to get to many parts of London easily by public transportation. We could buy what we needed nearby and particularly appreciated the Saturday farmers'market, one of the best I have seen. We really enjoyed living here in tastfully furnished rooms and using the well equipped kitchen. All the systems worked well, so we kept warm and had plenty of hot water. Our hosts were incredibly helpful in every possible way. It was a pleasure to get to know them. I highly recommend this house as a home from home. I am sure we will be back. This is the perfect place for a London visit. We were there for 3 months and enjoyed every minute. The house is attractive, comfortable, convenient and in a lovely area. The tube is a very short walk away making any part of London readily accessible. And the owners went out of their way to be sure that everything went smoothly. We just wish we could do it all again!! I had a super time living for nine weeks in this lovely little Victorian house, and all my communications with Paul and Jane, the owners, were professional and pleasant in equal measure. As the listing says, the bright, light-filled, house is ideally located for quick journeys on foot or by public transport into central London, and the street itself is charming. The house is equipped with everything you need and nothing you don't: it's a calm and restful space, and the back garden is really pretty too. I recommend this rental unreservedly!
