2 bed flat, 1 minute walk to River, 5 minutes to tube station

Two bedroom, nicely-furnished recently-modernized flat on the first floor (2nd floor in the US convention for numbering) of a modern purpose-built apartment block.

The flat is suitable for two adults sharing, or a couple and a small child.

Previous tenants were faculty on sabbatical leave at Imperial College, Kings College, UCL and the London School of Economics.

The flat is very light, bright, airy, with a south facing balcony. Very clean, quiet and safe. The balcony is large enough for a child to play in, and there is also an enclosed quad which is laid to lawn with locked gates accessible only to the residents. There is also an underground car park for the residents.

The flat comes with a fully-equipped kitchen and a new bathroom. Wood and tiled floors. The flat is gas central heated with hot water supplied from a very efficient new boiler. It is very warm and easy to heat, with double-glazed windows throughout.

The flat is located in Putney which is one of London's nicest and most family-friendly suburbs. (search with your preferred map software for "Lockyer House London SW15 1EE").

Many lovely pubs, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and several supermarkets (e.g. Waitrose, Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer) are located in Putney High Street which is 2-3 minutes walk. There are also several parks and a river-side path for walking, biking or jogging all the way to Richmond and Kew Gardens.

The flat is one minute's walk to the River Thames and is the starting location of the historic Oxford vs. Cambridge Boat Race (http://www.theboatrace.org).

The Putney Embankment where generations of Putney children have fed the ducks is another minute's walk.

Putney is in London Transport's Zone 2. The nearest underground station is Putney Bridge (District Line) which is a 4 minutes walk over the lovely Putney Bridge with spectacular views of the historic Putney Embankment, Bishops Park and the 15th Century St Mary's Church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Mary%27s_Church,_Putney).

Central London and the West End (e.g. South Kensington for Imperial College and many of the major museums) is only 15 mins away by tube. King's College and the LSE are about 20 minutes by tube.

Several buses stop on Putney Bridge which is 2 minutes walk from the flat. From there you can take a number of buses to Central London e.g. the number 14 bus which goes through Fulham, South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly and Bloomsbury.

My partner and I spent six glorious months in Putney during my two-year fellowship in London. Of the three places we stayed this was, by far, the best. It cost a bit more than the previous two flats, but it was our favorite due. The flat is small but comfortable and quiet and safe. It faces south and has a nice patio (it is an upper ground floor apartment that I wouldn’t classify as a second-floor apartment, even by American standards). The bathroom is spacious, with natural light, a large bathtub, and under-floor heat. The flat also has a spare room for use as an office or guest room. The heat and hot water work well (unique among our three stays). The location is extremely pleasant—the flat is located one block off the Thames, near to parks and ample shopping and nice bars and restaurants, gyms and fitness places. My wife and I stayed in Barbara's apartment for about a year in 2014/15 after moving to London from Montreal. Barbara was incredibly helpful and professional, preparing the place carefully for our arrival and meeting us there with the keys basically straight off the plane. Preparing the lease and later extending it for a few months on a rolling basis whilst we searched for our own place to buy was easy and hassle-free. She also took care of any issues we had with the apartment very promptly and with no fuss. She was really as much host as landlord! The apartment was everything it was advertised as: cosy, convenient and fully kitted out. We ended up deciding that we preferred living outside of London to the south and commuting in (nearly all the SW of London has quite a bit of aircraft noise) -- but I know many others who enjoy big cities who have fallen in love with Putney. My husband, my 16 years old son and I stayed 10 months in Putney flat. It is a comfortable and cozy apartment, sunny and quiet, with a convenient location. Barbara made easy and smooth the arrangement for the rental and solved quickly any problem. The flat is just 5 min to Putney High Street where there are supermarkets and all kinds of shops and restaurants, 10 min to the gym and the Putney library (many activities and facilities) and several nice pubs are close to the flat, even one with live music every day. Putney bridge underground station is 10 min walk. We especially enjoyed The Thames, I still miss to see the river and the rowing teams every day and to go for a run by the Thames path. Richmond village (amazing) is easily reached by foot throughout the Thames path. Closest parks are the Bishop´s park and Putney Common. We had a wonderful time there¡¡

Every three years, my husband (an academic), my family, and I travel for Spring quarter to London (he teaches a study abroad program). In 2010, we were lucky enough to stay in Putney, in one of two of Barbara Y.'s flats (we stayed in a three bedroom-four person flat--which is no longer available). So far, Putney has been my favorite place. Putney's high street has high-end shops and eateries, the Thames River walks (1 minute away from the flat) are still palpable memories for my family, Bishop's Park and Fulham Palace are a five minute walking distance, the tube station is clean and safe, Putney Common's nature park is beautiful, the homes and apartment buildings are clean and well-taken care of. Basically, my stay there was a total joy. Barbara was an excellent host to my family: we walked into a polished and clean flat with washed linens, she keeps her homes neat and tidy and updated, and she was respectful and professional with us while also being warm and approachable. I highly recommend this particular flat, as it is in an even better location to high street, the Thames River (gorgeous!), and beautiful Bishop's Park than the flat we stayed in (and we were close!). Barbara's current flat would be perfect for a couple or family of three (or possibly four if young children under 6). My children were young at the time and the Putney library was 8 minutes walk from our flat and filled with books for the children. There was also a fun center and kid-friendly cafe's, a movie theatre in walking distance, and a fantastic limestone Church with Sunday farmer's markets, and the kids loved going to all these places. Putney is upscale and comfortable living with beautiful foliage and architectural bridges and quintessential Victorian architecture! My experience was a 11 out of 10. It was also a very close ride into the city, so excursions were possible on a daily basis. After several experiences, my family and I still rank Putney as our favorite place to live in London.
