Centuries-old stone house surrounded by cherry orchards and vineyards
Our house in Provence is the oldest part of an ensemble which used to be the summer residence of the bishops of the nearby city of Carpentras. In the 16th century Bishop Iacopo Sadoleto, Jacques Sadolet for the French, corresponded from our house with important intellectuals of the period, including Erasmus. The house retains stone walls and features from that period.
There are three double bedrooms , a study, a dining room with a beautiful stone arch, two bathrooms and a completely equipped kitchen. Much of the furniture is custom-made from oak, and there are many pieces of furniture from around the world, as well as carpets, lamps and objects. There are two bathrooms inside the house and another off the courtyard.
The courtyard is surrounded by stone walls, and contains a garden with flowers and bushes and a big mulberry tree under which meals can be eaten. The large swimming pool is outside the courtyard in the middle of an orchard with a view of Mont Ventoux; it is in use only from June to September.
The food shops and wine cellars in the surrounding villages are very impressive. Carpentras, 10 km away, hosts a huge market every Friday which covers the historic centre of the city.
