Melbourne CBD Art Deco Apartment

This Boutique Art Deco Apartment is a converted 1900s Art Deco Office Block located in the heart of the CBD in Henty House. The location is truly amazing...The building is central to everything! Surrounded by great restaurants, bars, galleries and architecture. Embrace inner city living! One month into her stay a recent guest email us to say:

"...I continue to love this place and the location. I was able to step out my door and partake in all of the White Nights festivities. Swimming at the public baths, shopping at the Queen Victoria market, Tango in Glen Iris, Flamenco on Gertrude Street and Bollywood in Fitzroy…”

Completely refurnished, the apartment has lots of daylight (from large windows and high ceilings) and a spacious floor plan with one large bedroom (built in robes), modern bathroom (with laundry), a separate kitchen, a large living area and small balcony. The windows on the bedroom are double glazed to control sound and temperature. The apartment has heating and ceiling fans (no air conditioning but because of the orientation and building mass it stays cool in summer). Other amenities in the building include secure entrance (with video intercom), a gym and bike storage (in basement).

The apartment sleeps 2, but can accomodate up to 2 additional guests on a sofa bed in the lounge area. The bedroom has a queen size bed with a premium mattress, hotel quality linen (1000TC) and a choice of 6 pillows of varying levels of firmness (2 x latex, 2 x duck feathers and 2 x wool). Additional bedding has been provided in the linen cupboard.

The kitchen appliances are new with stainless steel finishes. You will find an electric oven/cooktop/grill, dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and a large selection of dishes and utensils. The dining table can be easily extended to accommodate six people.

The apartment is perfectly located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, within walking distance to restaurants, shops, RMIT University (15min) and the University of Melbourne (20min). Your best option for getting around Melbourne is public transport. The area is very well serviced by public transport and is located inside the 'free tram zone', which allows you to travel at no cost on trams within the CBD. The closest tram stop to the apartment is Bourke Street on Williams Street. The closest major train station is 'Southern Cross' which is a 6-8-minute walk and connects trains to the Skybus ($18 one-way if booked online) to Melbourne Domestic and International Airports.

The apartment has not been allocated a dedicated car parking space, however there are a limited number of casual parking spaces in Henty Lane where you may park (with displayed permit) for a maximum of 3 hours between 7am-7pm Monday to Friday. If you need a car, flexi-car has over a dozen cars parked in the surrounding area that can be hired by the hour.

The apartment is connected to the National Broadband Network (NBN) with unlimited data and Tier 1 speeds of 12Mbps for downloads and of 5Mbps for uploads. These are standard Australian internet speeds. Passwords will be provided upon check-in.

The area is well serviced by large and small supermarkets. To get you started we will supply a start up kit of tea, coffee, milk, oil, salt, pepper and other miscellaneous items. On Saturday & Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the famous Queen Victoria Market operates where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat and seafood at great prices. You can walk here from the apartment in 15 minutes, or catch a tram (2min). We have provided a trolley for transporting your shopping.

From April 1, 2019 rent is $700 AUD per week ($650/wk for stays of more than ten weeks). This is inclusive of all costs (water, electricity, internet). A refundable bond of between $750-$1500 is required to secure the apartment. (Generally $750 for stays of under 5 weeks.) We cannot guarantee the booking until this deposit has been received and guest's identification verified (only Government issued ID such as a passport or driver's license).

Contact us and we will quickly respond with a digital copy of our apartment guide, which provides details about the apartment, the location and the straight forward process involved in renting with us. Please note that we require our tenants to sign a standard Sabbatical Homes rental agreement. A copy will be supplied when you enquire with us.

About Me
I am an academic an the University of Melbourne in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. My husband and I have had very positive experiences with Sabbatical Homes since 2012, when we rented our family home to Richard, his wife and daughters. From January 2013, we have been renting our furnished city apartment through the site and have been the host of many overseas guests. We have had very positive feedback from our guests regarding our high level of professionalism (from inquires through to meeting and greeting upon arrival) and the comfort and high quality of our apartment. We love travel and have tried to thoughtfully incorporate everything that you will need for a comfortable stay. We live only a short distance from the city and will respond immediately in the event you need something. We are regularly making upgrades to the apartment (including sound proofing in the bedroom; a new shower screen and toilet suite) or replacements to day to day items (linen, sheets, kitchen utensils) to keep things fresh. Please contact us for a quick response and information.

We've stayed at the Henty House apartment with my wife and our newborn son for 3 months and loved it. Pippa was very easy to communicate and helpful during whole stay. The apartment was well equipped and cleaned throughout. Living in CBD is really convenient to access the main attractions of Melbourne. Strongly recommended.

I had a fanastic stay in this apartment. It was very nicely furnished and felt homely. The apartment was well equipped with everything I needed for my months stay. Toiletries, cleaning products, kitchen utensils, and basic cooking supplies were all provided, and there was even a warm blanket in the cupboard for colder evenings.

The location was pefect. The building felt safe, and was so close to train stations and tram stops but still quiet in the evenings. I was able to get around the city very easily, though it was also lovely to walk through the city.

I would definitely recommend this apartment!

We spent the month of July in the apartment in Little Collins St. We found it very suitable - centrally-located, spacious, well-equipped and comfortable. Philippa and Matty had anticipated most of our needs, and provided relevant information about the apartment, the area, (and Australia generally). The apartment is within a ten minutes walk of Flinders Street Station and Southern Cross Station, from which there is a regular non-stop bus service to the airport. My work was in the Victoria State Library (15 mins walk) and the University of Melbourne (about 15 mins by tram), and the apartment is well-served generally by public transport. Close by, there is a great variety of restaurants and bars, while many of Melbourne's cultural institutions are within walking distance. Excellent John Cunningham 8/10/2018 7:20:00 AM
This one bedroom unit is beautifully appointed, comfortable, quality, clean and a great location. This unit was nicely resourced with items to get me started which is much appreciated. I'd recommend this Henty House sabbatical home to anyone looking for a great apartment in a top location in the CBD, close to the trams, shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Excellent! The apartment, located along Little Collins Street, is a hop away from Southern Cross station (useful for train rides out of the city into the suburbs, car rental agencies, the airport shuttle service, and supermarkets in the complex), ten minutes' walk from the main shopping district and four tram stops from Queen Victoria Market. Tram and bus routes nearby provide easy access to everywhere we want to visit.

While families with small children might prefer the suburbs, we enjoy staying in the city as it offers many child-appropriate activities. Tram services nearby provide direct access to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, City and Docklands libraries, Melbourne Zoo and Flagstaff Garden. If you've a child, activities at ArtPlay and NGV galleries are also recommended.

We have grown to appreciate the location, also for good eats nearby. Purple Peanuts (along Collins St), Pho n Roll, BrimCC Japanese Organic Cafe and Suri Suri (the last three are along the same stretch of Little Collins St) have become our favourite haunts. At least one of these casual eateries would be open, even on Sun, so we never have to worry if we feel too lazy to cook.

I travel to the University of Melbourne by tram using the stop just two streets away down Little Collins. It is a nice walk with many small shops and cafes. The tram ride is only ten minutes. On a good day, I would like to walk to or back from the University, stopping by the Queen Victoria Market to grab lunch or produce to cook for dinner.

Pippa and Matt are very thoughtful hosts. Everything from tea bags to toiletries was provided to help us get started. We especially appreciate the provision of a child mattress, linens and blanket for our toddler. Pippa has been responsive when we informed her of anything that needed her notice, and would let us know if she needed to enter the apartment to fix the rare problem, which happened only once in our four-month stay.
