Melbourne City: Fully furnished Art Deco apartment (Excellent reviews)

This boutique apartment is a converted 1920s Art Deco office block located in the heart of Melbourne’s central business district in 'Henty House'. The location is truly amazing. The building is central to Melbourne’s main attractions including great restaurants, bars, galleries and architecture. Embrace inner city living!

One month into her stay a recent guest email us to say:

"...I continue to love this place and the location. I was able to step out my door and partake in all of the White Nights festivities. Swimming at the public baths, shopping at the Queen Victoria market, Tango in Glen Iris, Flamenco on Gertrude Street and Bollywood in Fitzroy…”

The apartment is thoughtful decorated with contemporary decor. It has a spacious floor plan with one large bedroom, bathroom (with laundry), a separate kitchen, a large living area and small balcony. The windows on the bedroom are double glazed to control sound and temperature. The apartment has heating and ceiling fans (no air conditioning but because of the orientation and building mass it stays cool in summer). Other amenities in the building include secure entrance with video intercom, a gym and bike storage (in basement).

The apartment sleeps 2, but can accommodate up to 2 additional guests on a sofa bed in the lounge area. The bedroom has a queen size bed with a premium mattress, hotel quality linen and a choice of 6 pillows of varying levels of firmness (2 x latex, 2 x duck feathers and 2 x wool). Additional bedding has been provided in the linen cupboard. If you are traveling with child, or a baby we can provide amenities to make your life easier (baby change table, child sized mattress and high chair with plastic dishes).

The kitchen appliances are new with stainless steel finishes. You will find an electric oven/cook top/grill, dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and a large selection of dishes and utensils. The dining table can be easily extended to accommodate six people.

The apartment is perfectly located in the heart of the Melbourne’s central business district and is in walking distance to restaurants, shops, RMIT University and the University of Melbourne. Your best option for getting around Melbourne is public transport. The area is very well serviced by public transport and is located inside the 'free tram zone', which allows you to travel at no cost on trams within the CBD. The closest tram stop to the apartment is Bourke Street on Williams Street. The closest major train station is 'Southern Cross' which is a 6-8-minute walk and connects trains to the Skybus ($18 one-way if booked online) to Melbourne Domestic and International Airports.

The apartment has not been allocated a dedicated car parking space, however there are a limited number of casual parking spaces in Henty Lane where you may park (with displayed permit) for a maximum of 3 hours between 7am-7pm Monday to Friday. If you need a car, flexi-car has over a dozen cars parked in the surrounding area that can be hired by the hour.

The apartment is connected to the National Broadband Network (NBN) with unlimited data and Tier 1 speeds of 12Mbps for downloads and of 5Mbps for uploads. These are standard Australian internet speeds. Passwords will be provided upon check-in.

The area is well serviced by large and small supermarkets. To get you started we will supply a start-up kit of tea, coffee, milk, oil, salt, pepper and other miscellaneous items. On Saturday & Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the famous Queen Victoria Market operates where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat and seafood at great prices. You can walk to the market in 10 minutes or catch a free tram. We have provided a trolley for transporting your shopping.

From January 2020 rent is $680 AUD per week, inclusive of all ongoing costs. A refundable bond is required to secure the apartment (returned within one week of your departure). We cannot guarantee the booking until this deposit has been received and guest's identification verified (only Government issued ID such as a passport or driver's license).

TO BOOK: Contact us to confirm your dates and we will quickly respond with a digital copy of our apartment guide, which provides details about the apartment, the location and the straight forward process involved in renting with us. Please note that we require our tenants to sign a standard Sabbatical Homes rental agreement and agree to our terms and conditions. A copy of our T&Cs will be supplied when you inquire with us.

My husband and I take great pride in offering excellent service. Henty house has been maintained as a rental property exclusively for the academic community since 2013. To date we have hosted 20+ guests for periods of 2 weeks to 12 months from Japan, China, Canada, USA, Singapore, Italy, Turkey, England, Ireland and Australia. Reviews from previous guests all give us a rating of 'Excellent".

About Me
I am an academic an the University of Melbourne in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. My husband and I have had very positive experiences with Sabbatical Homes since 2012, when we rented our family home to Richard, his wife and daughters. From January 2013, we have been renting our furnished city apartment through the site and have been the host of many overseas guests. We have had very positive feedback from our guests regarding our high level of professionalism (from inquires through to meeting and greeting upon arrival) and the comfort and high quality of our apartment. We love travel and have tried to thoughtfully incorporate everything that you will need for a comfortable stay. We live only a short distance from the city and will respond immediately in the event you need something. We are regularly making upgrades to the apartment (including sound proofing in the bedroom; a new shower screen and toilet suite) or replacements to day to day items (linen, sheets, kitchen utensils) to keep things fresh. Please contact us for a quick response and information.

My partner and I spent two months living in this apartment. It was a perfect location. We loved being right in the center of the city. Little Collins has so many restaurants and coffee shops to choose from. It was easy to get to the Yarra River for a run. The apartment was very functional for our needs. Each room was comfortable for a small apartment. The kitchen worked well with full size appliances. We cooked many meals there. Grocery stores and the Queen Victoria Market are close by. The bathroom was large with a standard size washer and dryer. The shower was nice with plenty of hot water. While the apartment has no air conditioning we stayed cool in February with the windows open and the ceiling fans on. The living room was comfortable for working and relaxing. The building is very nice and secure. I never felt unsafe. The gym in the basement was adequate to get a workout in and it was a good way to meet some neighbors. It was nice to have a parking spot for the occasions we got a rental car. A downside is the noise from activity in the alley, especially garbage trucks. There was construction noise at times. It is an apartment in the CBD with city noises. We got used to it. Pippa is very easy to work with. The best part of this apartment is the location. We would stay here again. This was a very enjoyable place to live in and it was situated in a fun neighbourhood. The hosts were extremely thoughtful and made my stay comfortable. All in all, I am super satisfied, and would highly recommend this place! Excellent Shashank Kanade 8/12/2019 6:46:00 AM
We stayed here for one month and this was great accommodation. It's in an excellent location and our stay well organized by Pippa. We appreciated all the small but important details that were provided - from laundry detergent to international adaptors. We felt at home here and would recommend it to others Excellent Tomoko Ichitani 6/3/2019 6:03:00 AM
We stayed here for about 7 weeks, while working at the University of Melbourne. The flat was perfect; great location for the city and for U of M. It is very clean, very well equipped, and, for a small place, has a crazy amount of storage. There's a small gym in the basement that I often had to myself . Pippa is a great host - careful and responsive. I feel very lucky that we got to stay here. Will come back if I can. Excellent Mary Hardy 4/9/2019 1:42:00 PM
We've stayed at the Henty House apartment with my wife and our newborn son for 3 months and loved it. Pippa was very easy to communicate and helpful during whole stay. The apartment was well equipped and cleaned throughout. Living in CBD is really convenient to access the main attractions of Melbourne. Strongly recommended.
