The property, in a tiny rural hamlet (7 properties) a short walk from St Cybranet, has three self-contained buildings (see id=50283 for the sechoir, 41321 for the gite), making it ideal for individuals, couples, family reunions or study groups requiring a generous common space with some private space to retreat to. The buildings can be rented individually or as one group. It has a tranquil, sunny enclosed garden & swimming pool with deck.

Main house, sleeps 8+, constructed 1729/1797: Ground floor ~135sq.m: fully equipped open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with open fire, study (55sq.m), huge living room w. cathedral ceiling and 3 French doors to garden (60sq.m), large HD plasma TV with satellite tuner, DVD, music system with CD player and radio tuner, dual wifi access points, 1 dbl bedroom w. ensuite bathroom/toilet, additional toilet. Stone and terracotta tile floors with underfloor heating, wood burning stove and fireplace. Upstairs ~80sq.m: 3 generous double bedrooms, w. ensuites, two with baths, toilet, mezzanine w. daybed. Oak floorboards, electric heaters in bedrooms. King double beds with memory foam surmatelas convertible to 2 singles on request. Kitchen is set up to handle 20+ people, large oven with rotisserie, 'American' fridge with ice and cold water service, dishwasher etc., large front-loader washing machine.

Stone house #2 ('Gite', listing 41321, sleeps 5 - 7, constructed 1861, total ~100 sq.m on 3 floors): Main floor: lounge with well equipped kitchen, dishwasher, fireplace, small sunny dining room, master bedroom double with ensuite; Upstairs: large double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with full bath, toilet; Garden level: double bedroom, ensuite bathroom and toilet. Stone fireplace with wood heater, electric heaters in bedrooms.

Walnut barn ('Sechoir', listing 50283, sleeps 2 - 4): ~80 sq.m. on 2 floors, two bedroom, 1 bathroom, well-equipped kitchen area with dishwasher, study corner, suit individual, or couple with children. An inviting light-filled space combining the stone wall, oak and poplar beams of the original drying shed, poplar boards on interior walls, with patio doors onto balcony and patio and lots of glass.

To stay in touch or do some work: wireless ADSL throughout the property, with separate access points for each building; desks & chairs in each building; a printer/scanner/copier and widescreen LCDs available on request, desktop computer with dual monitors in study in main house. Extra washing machine and drier in shared laundry. 4 burner gas BBQ with lid for roasting.

There are herbs, chillies and some strawberries in the garden, a plum tree and a fig tree in the field (plums in July, figs in autumn, if the birds don't get them first), chestnuts in the woods (autumn, particularly north of the Dordogne river), and walnuts at any time of year (they keep for a couple of years) from our own walnut trees! Help with the harvest if you are here in October/November!

Esparoutis is a tiny hamlet of traditional stone houses - 7 properties, mostly built in the 18th century - nestling in the Ceou Valley (one of the least polluted streams in the area). It's up a lane from a minor road and easily accessible, a short walk or flat bike ride to shops (St Cybranet 1km or Castelnaud 2.5km) and 4km (not flat!) from the busy village of Cenac (wide range of services).

This section of the Dordogne River (2.5 km away) is called the Vallee des Cinq Chateaux and is probably the most beautiful part, with the postcard-perfect villages of Domme (8km), Beynac and La Roque Gageac (6km) and the castles of Castelnaud, Fayrac, Les Milandes, Lacoste and the gardens of Marqueyssac and L'Albarede all within 5km. Sarlat is 15 minutes away, and many major sites - Les Eyzies, Vezere Valley, cave paintings, and many more chateaux - are within half an hour.

The apartment of Ien and Ian is absolutely fabulous! It is very spacious, has 2 bathrooms, and very well equipped. Moreover, having access to both the indoor and outdoor pool, as well as to the gym, was an big plus for us! We enjoyed the amazing views from the (huge!) balcony, and the neighborhood was just perfect for our family with 2 young children. Lots of nice playgrounds, shops and restaurants! Also, the neighborhood is easily connected with the CBD by public transport. Finally, Ien and Ian have been very helpful in helping us out with various arrangements; they are just perfect hosts! This is a wonderful base for exploring Sydney. We felt lucky to have found it the moment we walked in, and appreciated it even more by the end of our stay in March of 2018. The apartment is beautifully furnished and very comfortable, and the kitchen is especially well equipped. There is an indoor and an outdoor pool and an excellent exercise room. The view from the balcony is expansive and oftentimes dramatic, with pretty extraordinary bird life visible and sometimes landing. It is in a great neighborhood for walking, with some really nice parks close by. There are lots of very good restaurants within walking distance. We liked Tramsheds in particular—it is a pleasant walk and has both good restaurants and good food shopping. Also, from there you can get the light rail train, a nice way to get downtown. Ien and Ian are excellent hosts, easy to work with, and very helpful in getting oriented. Very highly recommended! Excellent JMH 3/9/2019 7:49:00 PM
We had a great holiday in Sydney,staying in Ian's apartment.It is a spacious, quiet 4th floor apartment in a modern building,private with very comfortable main bedroom and two bathrooms and has modern facilities with excellent sitting and dining areas.From the large balcony there are lovely views over leafy parts of Sydney. There is access to a gym,to indoor and outdoor swimming pools and convenience stores and eating establishments are close by.It is within walking distance of Sydney University,cafes, restaurants and bakeries in Annandale,Glebe and Newtown. Just outside the main door to the building is a bus stop which takes one to the City Centre and we used this often as it was so convenient.When we rented a car for longer trips we used Ian's designated parking space in the secure underground carpark. Ian's apartment is very spacious with a massive view from an open deck. The apartment is well-equipped for visitors and yet designed for a local. It is located supremely close to the University of Sydney and there are many great shops and cafes nearby (Broadway, Glebe Point Road, a shop across the street for basic needs, and a quite good sushi restaurant one block away). The bus lines running frequently along Parramatta Road take you into the city. Access to the pool and gym were a big plus, especially during the summer. The huge flat screen TV in the living room was a guilty pleasure, too. The apartment has a very new and modern feel, though the carpet and rugs are a bit worn. The bathrooms are in superb condition (we gave it a bit of a scrub down).

Ian was extremely helpful and on the ball--it was delightful to meet him. Staying here made our three week stint in Sydney extraordinarily comfortable and memorable. Highly recommended!
