This cozy spot was listed as "Casita con Vista" ("Home with a View") when I was looking for a place to stay as a visiting UC Berkeley professor with my wife and 5 year old son. Well, the moniker was definitely appropriate: as soon as you walk in, you get a glimpse of one of the most panoramic views of the hearts of San Francisco that I have ever seen. Imagine waking up in the morning and stepping out onto a lovely deck with such postcard landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower all laid out before you. I wanted to take pictures every day for the two months we stayed!

But the experience at Casita con Vista was much than just about the "vista". I was looking for a home away from home, a place that I could consider comfortable and safe for my family. We got just that. Kathleen welcomed us with open arms (literally), and provided just the right dose of involvement with us, regularly checking in if we needed anything, and happy to give us our space if we signaled any desire for it. As an example of just how responsive Kathleen is, one morning I detected just a hint of gas coming from the stove, and so went upstairs (she is almost always there in case you need her) to let her know -- just in case. Well, even though it was just a "hint" of a scent of gas, she spared not a moment and alerted the gas company, who came by the very next morning to conduct a thorough inspection. (They found just a tiny issue with one of the burners, which was fixed the very same day.)

The place itself has everything you need -- the pictures reflect what you can expect. However, what the photos do not show is how Kathleen goes the extra mile to make sure the place is well stocked. When my family and I arrived, we found we needed to shop for just the very basics (i.e. groceries), as everything from kitchen utensils to food spices were all there already. There really was a sense that we were moving back into a home, rather than visiting a new and strange one.

I can highly recommend Casita con Vista. For my two-month stay with my wife and young son, it really felt like home -- with a view.

My husband and I stayed in this rental for a month while we were visiting scholars at the UCSF Mission Bay campus. We loved everything about this place: the apartment, the neighborhood and our landlady, Kathleen. The apartment is bright and has a layout that makes life very easy for two people. We walked to the Alemany Farmer's Market (the best) on Saturdays and had dinners on the porch looking out to the city. When we didn't want to cook, we walked to the Precita Cafe around the corner, or the Mission district, which has many diverse restaurants. For exercise, we would climb uphill to the Bernal Heights Park and take in the expansive view of the city. Kathleen spared no expense to make sure that all the furnishings in the apartment were to our satisfaction, not to mention the bi-weekly cleaning service. This was a home away from home. Given the opportunity, we certainly would return. Excellent R & T 8/5/2018 6:20:00 PM
Kathleen's apartment was nothing short of perfect. Great size for a couple, with plenty of storage room. There was everything necessary to make us feel right at home as soon as we came through the door - kitchen supplies, towels, bedding etc. The apartment was clean, and was kept clean throughout our stay by the sweet cleaning lady who comes every two weeks. The apartment is sitting on the outskirts of Bernal Hill, which is a really adorable neighbourhood, with the best views in the city. The balcony had an amazing view of the entire city. The apartment is right on the border of the mission district which is a really cool and fun area, and one of the best areas in the city to enjoy good food. The apartment is close to public transportation, so it's easy to get around, even without a car. What we miss the most, though, is Kathleen herself. She was so attentive to us and was always very helpful. She gave us plenty of privacy, but made sure we had everything we needed. She is a very special lady, that we're happy to have met. We can't recommend this apartment enough! Excellent Anders 7/16/2018 1:20:00 PM
My stay at Kathleen's home exceeded my expectations. It was perfect. The apartment is fully equipped, has a lovely view of the city, and is cozy and quiet. The apartment is located in a wonderful neighborhood, within walking distance to the historic mission district, cafes, and transportation. There is also a great walk with city views up the Bernal hill right near the apartment. My dog and I enjoyed sunny mornings on the outside front sitting area and lazy evenings on the deck. Kathleen is a wonderful host, very knowledgeable and helpful about local sites and attractions and very responsive to all my questions and requests. I would highly recommend this apartment for your sabbatical. I am sorry to have to leave it! Excellent Bridget 1/19/2018 9:42:00 AM
We really enjoyed staying in this flat. We stayed for 1 month in the summer. The flat was very well equipped (kitchen, washer, dryer). And the views from the bedroom and balcony were truly amazing - you can basically see all of San Francisco. The location is good, it is a quiet and peaceful area (with birds singing in the garden), but all the Mission taquerias, restaurants, cafes, bars etc. are really close by (10 minutes walk). And the beautiful Precita Park is just around the corner. The flat was really clean and in good condition. The landlady is super nice. Since we didn't know the city, she recommended us many places to see and visit. We really enjoyed our time in this flat and would recommend it to anyone. Excellent Jarkko Harju 1/12/2018 11:03:00 AM
