About Me
Brenda G. Williams is a local art advisor and independent curator specializing in emerging contemporary artists. She attended Clark Atlanta University and majored in communications. Before moving to Italy, Brenda worked as an assistant producer; stylist and make-up artist while at Ogilvy & Mather. Williams began her art career in Italy selling works on paper from Galleria Bonomo in Bari, before returning to the states to manage the Eyes Gallery in Philadelphia. After 3 years she moved to New York to work as an assistant set designer on the movie "Boomerang" and later worked at Sarajo where she sold post-colonial Indian furnishings and accessories as well tribal art and textiles. During this period she also worked at the American Museum of Natural History. Brenda later moved to Los Angeles, landed a job at the Getty Center and began to immerse herself in the contemporary art world, first by taking art collecting classes with KCRW art critic Edward Goldman and, later by working on various independent projects. Brenda currently works at UCLA in the department of Design | Media Arts. In summer 2014, Brenda curated her first LA exhibition, "Cross Fade", at Walter Maciel Gallery in Culver City. Brenda is currently one of five Culver City Cultural Affairs Commissioners and advises on Public Art and Historical Preservation sub committees. Brenda is also a lecturer at UCLA Extension, teaching a class titled, "Contemporary art Los Angeles". In spring of 2018, Brenda co-organized with Sagi Refael, "In This Together: Embracing Diversity" during LA Pride month for Equality California. In November 2018 Brenda curated a second group exhibition at Walter Maciel Gallery titled, "Pretty Big Things".
